Car scrapping

I have a Suzuki Alto 2004 model that I may need to have scrapped. Failed the NCT & to fix it I need a brake equaliser but Suzuki stopped making them so chances of me getting the part is very slim.
Had some guy come to the door last night wanting to scrap it for me, tried saying the council rings him when they hear about cars on the road without NCT/TAX but I could tell he was talking crap.
So I guess Ill have to let it go to a scrap dealer. How much would I get if I sell it to a scrap dealer?
It has less than 70k kms on the engine so I'm gutted that I cant fix it up:(:(

Probably get between €50 and €100 at max, possibly nothing.

Check car dismantlers for the part, shame to scrap it, try www.partfinder.ie

Make sure you get an end of life certificate from the scrap yard. It's your only proof it's scrapped

If you didnt want to scrap it, I have found that part online on ebay from an English breakers yard after a 2 minute search. Www.partfinder.ie is another source of car parts and Traynors brakers in Northern Ireland are very also.

For what it's worth. I had a brake equalising valve fail on a Peugeot before and I think my mechanic sprayed wd40 on it and worked it up and down a few times to free it

The car had been left on a driveway for a few years before we bought it. It passed the first 2 NCTs with no problems then it went in for the 3rd NCT it failed because the tester said it had rust on brake equalizer & pipes going into it need to be changed but the mechanic wont touch it unless we have the equalizer

Put it up on donedeal/adverts for a coupke hundred and see if anyone needs it.

Remember, you always send the VRC off to Shannon. Don't hand it over to some dodgy fella.

You can use your council to scrap car www.galwaycity.ie/end-of-life-vehicles

If you do scrap it, I read somewhere here (and saw a tweet from them later) that Dublin Fire Brigade will take it off you, to use it for training to extract people after a crash.

Might be a more honourable end for the car?

Edit - thought you were in Dublin for some reason, but I'm sure other Fire Brigades need them too.

Fire brigade won't pay and they shouldn't plenty of cars around for them to get for free.

For a car now there's little money in scrap, if you can get it to the scrap yard they might give you a few Euro if they collect you'll get nothing or have to pay. Anyone who collects and pays for a scrap car is most likely not legit.

I don' think the OP was expecting the fire brigade to pay.
