Question on junctions and lane position

    HI all,

I have never been able to find an answer for this and would like some opinions.

Please see the image that I will be referring to..

    https://www.google.com/maps/@51.8975146,-8.4651619,88a,35y,333.86h,1.93t/data=!3m1!1e3

In this scenario I will be turning left from the middle lane on Eddington street. If I am turning left onto Terence McSwiney Quay (which is one way) there are four lanes available.

Which lane(s) would I have right of way on turning left onto Ternece McSwiney?

I would think the 3rd and the furthest lane (the 4th, Closest to the water), and the left lane on Eddington I would assume to take position on the utmost left (1st or 2nd) lane on Ternece McSwiney Quay only...

The reason I ask is I often see two cars here turning left and often see the far left car turning left onto the quay cutting across lanes on the turn to end up in the middle (3rd) or sometimes far right (4th), I always wondered what is the right of way here?

Doesn't matter. Just be weary of it whenever you make that turn. You can do the right thing then some other idiot will still do just as you've described. Watch out for it and be ready to take whatever action you need to.

1st left lane would put you into lanes 1 (which then turns into a bus lane to piss you off) or 2
middle lane turn left will put you into 3 or 4

When im taking that turn middle and turning left I always end up by the river side so not to get creamed by some gob****e veering across 3 lanes.

In some US States it's the law that you go into the same lane on the road that you came from. So turning left there lane 1 would go to lane 1 and lane 2 would go to lane 2, lanes 3 and 4 would be illegal to enter. Here since there's zero enforcement of any traffic laws, bar DUI and exceeding the speed limit, then go into whichever lane suits and sod the rest.

There doesn't seem to be any set in stone rules about this so it is a bit of a case of just keep your wits about you. At least its two lanes turning into 4 so there should always be room to avoid any collision.

There is another one similar that gets me.

Coming southbound beside the custom house to go straight over the bridge, the righthand is bus lane so there is two lanes going into 4 straight ahead, you would think left lane to two leftmost lanes and right to two rightmost lanes but nope plenty of people in right lane want to go left.

Thanks for the replys, at least I am not the only one. Sometimes when you see somebody driving unexpectedly there is always a doubt it is you that is the problem and not the person cutting across 3 lanes.

There was a discussion on this in the past if it helps. No firm conclusions drawn there either.
