Love the company, hate the job

    Hi,

    I'm working for a lovely company (great boss, nice colleagues, not a lot of politics/bullying, everyone gets generally just on with their own job)

    However the job is killing my soul, I find no joy in the job anymore. The company is relatively small, so not a lot of opportunity to switch to a different role, I can't foresee any new jobs arising in the distant future.

    From what I've seen down though the years in other workplaces, I'm well aware that there can be a lot of bullying and nasty politics in a workplace.

    The company is perfect, but the job is not!

    Any thoughts? What would you do in this situation?

    Killing your soul is a pretty strong description and not a job you should stay in for your own sake. What has changed about the job that you don't find joy in it anymore?

    Also could you talk to your manager, they might have ideas for changing the role that you haven't thought of. Starting with how much you enjoy the company but the role isn't challenging you might be a good start.

    Ask for a pay rise such that it is enough for you to stay on for a while but not enough for the company to refuse and hire someone else to replace you.

    Thanks to all who have taken the time to reply to me, I appreciate it.

    The organisation is so small, that I don't see what else they could add to my role or diversify it..... I would be afraid if I approached management that I would be revealing that I don't like to role and then if have no other role for me, it might not lead to a good outcome...

    Don't do this, its mean and petty.

    Talk to the boss and ask him if you can do something more stimulating which would benefit both you and the company

    How about getting involved in industry organisations. They are also looking for people to go on committees and the like. It will open up different avenues for both you and the organisation

    You don't say what you do but there is the likesof Engineers Ireland, or you could represent your company in local chamber of commerce or business network groups.

    Would get you out of the office.
