Our 5 month old Cavachon seems to constantly get bored of his food, we thought we had it with Hills but that’s gone now too,
We have been recommended a brand called Seven which I never heard of before yesterday, I’ll link to their website below. It’s the same price as Hills and grain free. The girl in the pet shop said that if Armageddon happened and you had no food, people could survive on this.
Anyone hear of it or use it

No getting bored of food in this house. The food is put down and if not eaten, it is removed after 15 minutes and then offered at the next feed time. They won't starve if healthy but quickly learn to hold out for something better if you chop & change too much.

A dog will be picky if you allow them.. be consistent with their feeding

If he doesn’t eat it take it up.. no treats no other food. He will soon learn

You know what’s best for your dog

Also, just because a human could survive on it doesn’t mean it’s the best for our pets.

We sometimes do give him other things just to get him to eat something. Yesterday despite having a long walk he ate basically nothing until 3pm.

Maybe you need to take him to the vets then. Every cavalier x I know suffers from some type of digestive issues, mostly pancreatitis, which can be very uncomfortable for them. You’ll need a vet to confirm.

For now, hold all food until the morning, if he is generally healthy he will be fine. If he won’t eat his normal food then take him to the vet.

Chopping & rapid change in food can also cause severe discomfort as well.

100% Agree with this .. the marketing department for pedigree states the same thing about their food

Same with cats. Picky not allowed

I'd get him checked to make sure there's no digestive issues going on. Would you maybe try him on wet food / raw and see if there's any difference?

We have been giving him a small bit of wet food but that has a few drawbacks, it’s not as nutritious, more expensive and it smells awful in the house.

Everyone in our house always comments that the one I use - Forthglade smells delicious lol. :pac: By wet food I mean a good quality one. Take a look on zooplus - they have loads of good ones to suit every price range. Pet Stop sell the puppy Forthglade - I got before in an emergency. The 'Just Beef' one is my go-to sick food for Bailey when he has a pancreatitis flare up.

I have our 7 month old Chihuahua on Seven for the past fortnight or so & I've been happy with this food. Previously I had him on James Wellbeloved but was finding it hard to source where I live so on recommendation I tried this food & it has suited him.
As said above though a healthy dog won't starve itself, our guy was a bit fussy to begin with but I started taking his food up after 20 minutes & he didn't get it back until the next mealtime.
He sits beside me now while I'm making his dinner & cleans the bowl immediately.

If you mix wet and dry is it ok to use two different brands or should they be the same?

He’s on Hills Small & Minature Puppy but it’s hard to get tins of it. Can only seem to get them in vets.

^^ The OP is looking for tins not dry...

OP my friend feeds science plan and was saying the vets are moving away from it to some other Hills variety (I think Vet Essentials) so that might be why you're having probs sourcing it - I'd assume if one vets is doing it the rest will follow suit.
