I'm thinking of taking out long term hire of a new Van.

I hired a van on a short term basis a few years ago.... and my insurer wouldn't transfer my policy as the hire van wasn't in my name

I asked the Hire Company and they say thousands of people have private policies on hire van??

anyone have an experience of this??

A 'long term hire' is called a lease. Do not use the term 'rental' or 'hire' when talking to your insurance, the shutters will come down straight away.

For a short term arrangement, use the term 'replacement car/van' and for a long term rental, call it a lease.
