Ebay, China & Customs Charges

I think I'm in the right place to post this, although this place is alien territory to me!

Anyway I'm looking to buy some stuff from an eBay seller in China. Said stuff are diecast metal models. Anyway I've never bought from outside the EU before so I was wondering how it worked with relation to customs charges? I tried looking it up in Revenue, which directed me to this EU customs thing (TARIC I think it's called) and I couldn't figure it out.

Should I be concerned that the seller lists free P&P worldwide? I checked out the feedback and there's well over 1,000 positive comments with 1 neutral and 1 negative. But the free P&P confused me, how could there be free P&P all the way from China - that was what I first thought. And then I thought about customs charges, what I'd be saving in P&P I could be nailed for it customs.

I have no idea how customs charges work. I'm not looking to buy a whole boatload, geez couldn't be further from! Just 5 models which altogether come up to somewhere between €80 to €100 (I haven't done the sums yet, want to get this customs and P&P thing cleared first). Cheers peeps, any info would be appreciated thank you.

Plenty of stuff is free shipping from Asia. Something to do with how much volume there is I think. Whatever it is, it's nothing to be concerned about in regards to shipping.

It actually works out in your favour because tax and customs includes shipping rates which is ridiculous.

You'll pay 23% VAT on anything over €23 (or €26?) Including shipping. You'll pay customs on anything over €150 if it's applicable. You'll need to check the TARIC website to figure out what rate you'll pay. Books for example are 0 rated so no customs charge. It is a pain though.

You'll likely pay €10-15 fee as an 'admin' charge for AnPost, DHL etc paying your customs for you.

Double check the calculations to ensure you don't get ripped off either. Despite having an invoice, DHL overcharged me on two parcels from the US...

OP, please see the stickied thread on the 1st page. Also have a look through the charter. Thanks.
