Glass in metal frame doors

Hi I am trying to source a company to make doors for me that are glass in metal frame, so far the prices are crazy! I am now trying to get a fabricator to make the metal frame and then install the glass separately, I need to finalise a detail on how to hold the glass and also absorb any shock so it doesn't break if the door slams. I have very little knowledge in installing glass so would really appreciate any advice or tips on how to achieve it. I have attached a sketch of a section through the door to have a look at, the idea is to use 25mm SHS as the frame and 6.4mm solid square screwed into the SHS to hold the glass, it's just what does the glass need to stop it breaking? Or has anybody any better ideas?

Can you attach the sketch please?

    whats this door for
are you sure that metal frame wuld be ridgid enough
    weather proofing
    hindging and locking.
    warrantty
    helth and safety etc

personnaly i couldnt see building a door being cheaper than buying a proper one

Sorry I should have said this is an internal door to fit 2.4m by 2.4 space, it separates the living area from the hallways, I have a sketch of entire door, they seem to becoming more popular, we have been quoted in excess of €9000 for this door and surrounding frame!

    What finish do you require?
There is surely a solution available that doesn't involve building a frame yourself.
Are you going for a very slim frame looks wise?
Standard door would be much wider than 25mm and I'd suggest would have frame depth substantially more than that.
Also, you need to look at glazing proposals. Toughened laminated glass, double glazed unit etc. I imagine the glazing should be mounted with suitable windows seals to each side.

I have designed one of these for myself, however i have not yet built it as i do not currently have the money for this items as other house building items are taking preference. I think the 25x25 SHS is very optimistic, my design requires a 50x25 RHS. I am proposing a box and bead system with hidden fixings.

It will be a mild steel SHS, primed and spray painted, the outer frame will be 50mm SHS and the rest 25mm SHS, at the moment we were looking at standard glass, 6mm thick, either way we know the problem is with what type window seal we use, can't seem to find what is even available in the market for such a project, I have found examples out and about but not sure about the seal they used, can't imagine it standing up to the shock of a door slamming

What you need is "flat profile dry glazing tape" which is readily available, the only problem you may have, is that you will have to trim a few mm off, or split a 12mm section to get the 6mm you need, which is easy with a Stanley knife.

You will also have to use toughened or laminated glass for safety

Heat soaked tested & toughened glass.
