Leaf 40kwh towbar bicycle rack - possibility

Hi all, have an L40 Nissan leaf since middle may (3.5k miles on it already) and loving it, however i would love to put a bicycle rack on the back (not roof - economy, not strapped to boot - i want to keep the spoiler and paintworkin intact).

So I have been onto Nissan Ireland / Nissan Europe through various contact methods (ie hassling) to see if we can get a towbar for a bicycle rack (not for towing as this seems to be the issue with Nissan/efficiency/warranty etc) type approved in europe. These hitchs/towbars are available in US but not in europe due to no type approval and therefore laws/insurance issues.

I have just been informed that Nissan is to look into getting the Leaf with hitch/rack homologated...yay!!!...within 2 years....boo!!!

Ok its a start, if anybody else is interested in this please make contact with Nissan/Uk/Europe etc. as the more pressure / customers wanting this the more chance we have of making it happen. The initial start is there - lets just get it done faster.

Best option until that happens may be grey market import of an ecohitch for the Leaf.

See you solved this. How much did the kit cost? Wonder how hard it would be to get Nissan Ireland to get approval for this.

It's one of the main things holding me back from changing to an ev myself. There is one available for the Ioniq too but it's only available through German Hyundai dealers.

Think I need to wait for the 60kwh Leaf or 40kwh Ioniq though. We've been to Europe a few years now which has involved 850km drives per day with 500 of that done in one go! With the electric I'd say we'd have to stick to the north of France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Forget about an EV when you do trips like that. Lads can't even get home here without waiting hours let alone going to the mainland.
