New (to them) car for my parents

My parents were recently in a little fender bender and wrote of their car in the process of doing so

They are on the look out for a replacement, I'm not sure exactly what they have in mind. The late car was a Renault Modus, something along the lines of that, tall seating position and plenty of internal room for dad to lug around his hobby gear.

What I've suggested so far is as follows:

Honda Jazz (a girlfriend favourite) - not really anything within their "criteria/budget"
    Fiat Panda - Not keep
    Skoda Yeti - To expensive
    Hyundai Ix20 - To expensive

They have about 5-6k to spend on a 2011 or newer car, anyone have any suggestions?

Depending on their age....please note I am not saying they are old

You could look at electric. My parents had a Qashqai. For my mothers 70'th birthday we got her a Leaf. More or less the Qashqai is parked up now and they never use it unless they need 2 cars.

First off after been wary of automatic they love it. Also preheating of car is a huge favorite in winter. Depending on your parents age they might be getting reduced electricity costs. I know a few people in my area have used that

It does depend on what sort of trips they are doing and will the range work for them. I wouldnt expect them to try and work with the public system

I know it might not work, but just something different....

    Apart from that anything Toyota......

Didn't take long for someone to mention electric. The little verso looks like a nice car, never seen one before

My mother test drive one and hated it. The gear stick and handbrake were very low down compared to the driving position. Went with a petrol Yeti in the end and never looked back

Didn't think the gearstick would be to low as its high up

It's a Yaris with a high roof. The seat is very high but the floor is low if you catch what I mean.

It definitely isn’t the urban cruiser you’re thinking of?

    +1
You won't get an EV for 6k budget.

Well... you can... but it will be a massively degraded old model with 50km range.

Now that may syuit the OP/Parents but I doubt it.

Nope it's the small Verso S. It's based on the current Yaris underneath. It was an odd driving position. High seat and steering wheel and low set handbrake and gear stick. It was a complaint from an older, shorter lady so maybe the Ops parents are tall and it won't make a difference it was just a major flaw for us.

I'd expect it to be very well built and reliable however.

OP what about a normal Yaris, they've loads of space inside for a small car and are relatively trouble free, or a Nissan Note. The Nissan version of the Modus. Great value in 2011/12 models.

Kia Venga is also in budget.

Thanks all for the suggestions! Plenty for me to send on to them.

Note is a good call, they already mentioned looking out for one.
I drove a Dacia once as a rental and it was horrid, it wasn't the Stepway model mentioned however but I expect them all to be of the same quality?
Didn't see that Yaris before, will suggest but with a mention of the not so good driving position.
I passed a Ix20 the other day and suggested it but there's not many for under 6k. Worth a mention in any case
    I'll mention Kia Venga also

They are past retirement age (old?), I'll mention electric although I don't know how they would drive from Cavan to Dublin unless it was a hybrid.

    All good feedback.

Agreed re the dacias tbh. They are a great option for what they are (super cheap PCP new cars) but I wouldn't buy an older one.

Cavan to dublin is approx 120km from Google Maps.
You can do it (and the return leg too) in an EV but not in one from 2011 that costs 6k.

I do it every couple of weekend....

You would need either eGolf Gen 1or Gen 2 or Leaf 30kWh/Leaf Gen 2. Both would be outside of the 6k budget.

My mother has a Gen 1 in Cavan, loves it. Anytime she wants to come up jumps onto the bus :D just an option

Really you are looking at the options mentioned above. Althoughtmy parents didn't like the idea of automatic they love it now. Even was Dad who said all automatic are sh*t now wants to get rid of the Qashqai as manual. If you can I would try and pick up automatic.

My wife got her mother a little Yaris petrol automatic, low mileage and was only 6k or so from Toyota dealer. Brilliant little car and very easy on petrol. Just need to keep an eye out for them, they dont hang around long
