Anyone know of an optician in Ireland that specialises or knows WTF you are talking about in regards to needing glasses for target shooting? Might as well be talking Greek to my local Spec savers crowd:rolleyes:

Really need to sort this out with pistol shooting.Front and backsight are going completely out of focus these days.

The simple solution, if you know the prescription for your reading glasses is to try them or use a similar, or slightly less magnification prescription. This will leave the target blurred. Try using your reading glassed to get a sight picture. If it's too blurred you will need to consider bi-focals, vari-focals or a setup that has a lens to focus on the sights for your master eye and a distance lens in your other eye.

Alfie Vize in Walkinstown is an optician to consider.

The specsavers in Santry's head optician is an NTSA shooter. I always went to him for shooting lenses.

I got mine from Specsavers in Galway. They have a yellow tint for driving (I think), the tint sharpens up the contrast on the target. I explained what I needed them for and brought the slide of the pistol with me, but you could hold out a ballpoint pen to the same distance as the foresight. Mine are single vision and focus on the foresight and beyond. Forget varifocal as you will be juggling your head about looking for the right bit. Remember to take them off before leaving the range as you wont be able to read the speedo!:D

I got the yellow tinting from specsavers Cursies St. thrown in for free to cortrast game and targets and the optician knew what he was talking about when I told him I was shooting even suggesting specific size frames for use with scopes

You are using the same branch as me then GP. Whats that guys name, if you remember or know? You can PM me if you want?

Basically, the problem is pistol shooting specific.I'm left eye dominant, but going short-sighted in the left eye.So whats happening is I am getting conflicting signals of me trying to focus on the sights with a short sight while my far-sighted right eye is telling me something different.
And its getting worse, going by scores at Bullseye :(

Thought I might be. Don't remember his name but he was about 30 give or take not skinny but fit looking, he seemed to be the only male optician in that age group.

These people are brilliant. They will make bifocals with the "close" bit. i.e. for the front sight, at the top of the lens , instead of the bottom so you can hold your head erect when sighting a pistol. Just send the lens prescription over to them and the glasses come back the next week. Good value too.

Getting the correct lens seems to be the biggest problem, if you pick the front sight really clear the target is a complete blur , you need to be able to see some definition on the target especially if shooting those disruptive pattern Gallery targets.

Tried it, but it is a PITH because I was taught to shoot a pistol with both eyes open.:(

Fact.there is a German optician recommended by the all the German and pro shooters.Optik Mueller in Manching, Germany. Who specialises in sports shooters. You even bring your firearms into the basement range and they customise your glasses to your sports disciplines as well.
But the prices are steep.Looking at about a grand and a half all in with getting over there with flites etc.
