    Looking for advice.
I’m staying in Portlaoise next Saturday and Sunday night.
I want to go up to Croke Park in the Sunday to the cork-limerick hurling game.

    What’s my best plan?

Options that popped into my head

-Drive up to red cow park and ride, get Luas in along
    - drive to some other place or town and get a train or something into Dublin
    - Get a train in Portlaoise, but would these be packed full with cork limerick fans
Also I’m aware of roadworks etc.

    What should I do?

Personally I'd take the car to Red Cow P&R then LUAS and walk.
At least you're not hanging around waiting for public transport afterwards.
Roadworks on way up aren't too restrictive.

Great thanks. I’m hoping the red cow park and ride wouldn’t be full?

nah theres a huge amount of space available, ive use dit numerous times on very busy weekends and ive never seen it without spaces available.

If the car park on the west side of the tracks is full, just go to the one on the east

Would going to maynooth be any good?

Heard there’s a train there that stops close enough to Croke Park

Maynooth is a bit of a pain to get to though.
I'd rather head to Red Cow and walk from LUAS stop in town to Croke Park.

You could always get the green bus from Portlaoise town centre -pedestrian lights opposite Laois Shopping Centre- to Red Cow either.
    Up to you.

If going with the bus option I'd recommend the JJ Kavanagh option over the Dublin Coach (green buses) option - the latter frequently break down and have other "issues" well documented in the Commuting/Transport forum.
JJK however I've used a few times myself and no issues. It'll also drop you to the quays in Dublin if that's any help.

If you decide to drive to the Red Cow though, don't forget that you'll need to pay for the parking when getting the LUAS ticket. The clampers are very active there.
