Hi I have an unusual question. I just recently moved into a house, last night the neighbours alarm was going off, the weird thing is my alarm box inside the house was also ringing for the duration. I could not stop it at all. It was only when the neighbour turned off his that it stopped. Do you reckon the wiring is linked? Can I fix this?

You'd need to call an alarm installer for that brand of alarm or the company that installed it. Security system wiring isn't that straight forward and the boxes are usually tamper proof so the alarms will all sound if you attempt to open them.

If is an identical wireless system it's possible that somehow eg they were being installed the same day, someone mixed up the sensors and something is linked to your panel.

Is your house a semi-D with your neighbour next door?

I had a guy out who reprogrammed the alarm as it is an old eircom phonewatch one. I’ll give him a shout I guess

You're 100% sure the alarm is actually sounding ? It's not just the sound of the neighbors system that could be installed on the opposite side of the same wall?

If it has any status menus or anything is there a sensor showing up as tripped?

Do you know if there is a common attic space?

That’s what I thought at first but when I stood beside it it was clearly ringing and loud

Is it an old Phonewatch wireless system?

Press status and see what the panel says about the recent alarm.

If there's nothing on it, the panel wasn't ringing.

    No there isn’t?

Is it a wireless alarm then? Could that be the issue - your sounder or panel uses the same RF code as neighbours?

    It’s wired. A HKC alarm

Those panels usually "learn" the sensors. The guy who did it didn't happen to be working on both alarms at the same time by any chance?

All I could suggest doing is getting a HKC installer out to check it over.

Could you try to get the neighbour to test their alarm and see if you can check the panel status while it's ringing?

Best get an expert who specialises in alarms as it could be as Edgecase suggests, not only is it a nuisance but it could compromise your insurance if you have a fault and don't do anything to rectify it.

I guess I could he hit his from door and that’s what set his off. He was locked out.

It would be a strange one if they are linked together.
If you activate your alarm does his go off too?
