Break between Rent Supplement and HAP?

We are currently on rent supplement and have applied for HAP. I’ve been reading that when your application for HAP is approved, your rent supplement payment will stop and you and your landlord will be written to about what happens next.

Does this mean there will be a break in the payments, and will we have to come up with the rent ourselves? It isn’t possible for us, and I’m worried about it now. My baby is due in a few weeks so i’m freaking out because there is no way I could make the rent for even one month if HAP payments will take a while.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Yes the HAP is paid in arrears and you rent is due in advance. When transitioning you need to talk to your community welfare officer because your landlord is entitled to start proceedings for non payment of rent when you transition to HAP, it's not the landlords fault that the HAP is paid in arrears.
