Healthcare Assistant work experience

    Hi,

I'm looking for a career change from admin to Healthcare Assistant in order to be working part time around my family life. This will most likely be in a homecare/care for the elderly setting with the prospect of changing into one of Dublins maternity hospitals or the rehabilitation hospital at some point.

I spoke to one of the providers for online courses (FETAC L5) and the person told me to find a company to work for first before starting their course as all modules have work based assignments. However, I have heard other people doing work experience after theory training.

I would like to have at least a few modules under my belt before applying for any healthcare job to show prospect employers that I'm serious about my career change. I also worry about my time commitment to study once I start working.

Has anyone done the majority of their theory first and then started looking for work?

Any advise would be much appreciated
