Small garden wall and patio project

    Hi All,

I've started a project in the back garden and realised fairly early on that I've bitten off more than I can chew! I'll have to just keep going at it now:eek:

I'm currently digging foundation for a small 3 block high wall that will enclose a patio area.

The earth that I have dug up for the trenches is in the middle as the attached picture shows.

My plan is to build the wall, then level out the ground, hire a whacker plate and compress the earth that's there, then put down a hardcore base, whack it, then put down the sand base and whack it. Then lay the paving slabs. I'll have to figure out how to build steps down into the patio area too. (My jaysus what have I done :( )

I plan to keep an update of how it's going and the progress on here. Any general tips are welcome!

Have you figured out what your final levels will be?
Is the idea to step over the wall to get to the patio?

That would be easier but I'm thinking there will be about 2 steps down into the patio area.

This has been a painstaking and slow process due to many factors but here are a few update pics.

Are you going to do anything about the gap between the wall and the fence?

How are you planning to finish of the wall? Paint it, render it?

The plan is to tile the wall with a stone cladding.
On the left hand side and along the back I am going to enclose the patio with decking boards. So there will be no gap on the left hand side.
