Can someone please give me some input on the w204 C220 cdi?
Any reliability issues and are they expensive then fix if anything goes wrong?
I'm looking to get a 2010-11 automatic amg spec with xenons from the UK . Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for?

A facelifted model. Late 2011 onwards. If you settle for the pre-facelift you’ll regret it every time you see the ‘newer’ one.

Don’t buy it unless it has the 7-Gtronic autobox unless you plan on selling it for peanuts or for scrap when you’re done with it.

The 220CDI is reliable. Lots on the w204 can be done DIY or by an indy but get a half decent MB specialist for when modules act up on you.

Make sure it has the correct 7.5j and 8.5j staggered rims with the AMG Optik/Sport pack or it’ll look like a fat bird riding a bike from behind.

Service history is digital. Verify it with an MB main dealer and walk if it’s missed schedule for oil services. If you buy one, change the oil and do so every 10k miles in future. Ignore the long service interval nonsense.

Any links to the car you’re eyeballing?

    These 3 catch my eye.

Would I be expecting big jobs above certain milage with the c-class? Like dmf, timing chain/belt etc?

Looking at Audi a4s in those years but the multitronic boxes give a lot of trouble from reading many threads on boards.

A 12 VW CC dsg can be had for similar money but DMFs, water pump and cambelt are big issues with those apparently, from my research.

I have my heart set on a c-class at this stage, I'm just looking for something fairly reliable with the comfort of an automatic.
I'm not aware of any MB specialists in my area with the nearest dealership being in athlone but there is a few decent indys.
Are parts cheap and easy to source for the c-class?

I have a manual 2012 version for about 18 months and 50k km.

The only issue so far was coolant leak, which is common but cheap to fix.

I like the car with a few qualifiers.
    Pros:
*Drivers seat is nice, comfortable. 2-3 days a week my car doesn't move, but when it doesn't they can be very long days. I've done up to 700km a few times in it and didn't have an issue.
*The sta nav, phone works really well, sound system is decent
*For normal driving its plenty fast and frugal, on long runs doing 130km ish on motorway and not hanging around 5.1L/100km(55mpg) is norm

    Cons
*back seat is confined if driver is anything other than a midget
    *boot space is confined also

I change oil myself ever 15k km, other than that I haven't had to touch it. I put in a spurious water pump, it couldn't be any worse than the MB one!

I did get my first puncture in 500k km about 12 months ago, the white cotton MB gloves were a nice touch!

Have a good look at buying car in UK thread before heading over
