    Hi guys,

I am starting a job with the Council next week which I am very excited about.

What kind of perks are offered with the Council? I.e. Annual leave, flexi, discounts etc?

I know I will find these out next week but I have been offered another job in the private sector and I am trying to weigh up my options.

    Thank you.

What grade are you being offered with DCC?

They definitely offer flexible hours and flexi-leave, because every CC except Roscommon does.

    Congrats on the new job.

Some of this information might already be in the role spec / contract. It'll be there but buried in the small print.

First thing you need to set up is a dubco account! :) They're amazing.

    Thanks for the replies :)

    It's Grade 4.

I've checked the spec and the only thing it states is the salary. Nothing about annual leave etc.

I've heard about Dubco - what's so fab about it?! I have a bank loan already so I doubt they'd look at me for stuff like that!

It's 30days holidays and a day Flexi every 4 weeks.
I was a tco in DCC and moved to the CS as a CO.
I got offered executive officer and ASO the same week.
    Turned down DCC.
    Good luck in the job.

    Dubco is the credits union

Thank Tatranska. What was it like to work there?

I am still in the running for an EO job in the Civil Service too so waiting on that to come through but probably won't be until next year.

Going from Private to Public is a bit daunting to be honest.

    Hi Dora

Have you started yet, if so what do you think so far?

I've also been offered a job with them, Grade 4. Just had my medical today so waiting on a start date... I'm also moving from a long term private sector job and second guessing myself everyday!!

It was grand in DCC. A grade 4 is better than the frontline work of CO.
ASO does the call centre in DCC which is tough.

I had a choice of DCC and CS as an EO.
It's more money and more Flexi. 23 against 30 days holiday.
My reasoning apart from the money was the CS is bigger and it's better to advance in, or as I'm doing, moving dept.

Nothing stopping you taking DCC until the EO opens up for you.

ASO do alot more than just the Call Centre in DCC. They can be assigned to a number of Depts like Housing, Planning, Finance, Human Resources. There are only a small number of vacancies within the Customer Service, Call Centre.

DCC & Local Authority offer a better Work Life Balance and this may be something to consider long term.

Best of Luck with your career move whatever decision you make!

    43 days holiday/sick leave a year.

    Absolutely ludicrous.

Are we playing the old 'flexi leave is exactly the same as annual leave' game again?

If I do an extra days' worth of hours a month is there some problem with me taking a day off? I mean, I can certainly just work my exact hours and go home if you prefer. It's not like people aren't working the time in their contracts.

But we all know you just want an excuse to bash the public service.

Dead right (as in shouldnt be any problem!) and one of the reasons I am looking to move to service. I work a tonne of OT in the private sector and because we don't have a clocking system/flexi this is not easily proved or paid.. I would love to have this option in my current job!

I actually work in the public sector, just not for DCC. I do some overtime as well and take it out of the next day or when I wasn't busy. I did this in the private sector as well. Admittedly this was a bit easier for me because I work in a job which is highly project oriented with lots of deadlines, even in my current public sector job.

This is not the same as being able to accumulate days off.

I don't get anywhere close to 30 days of standard annual leave in my public sector job. It's really irritating that someone in a different part of the public sector does for what is probably an arbitrary reason. The bottom line is that as public sector workers, we accept a social contract that we're leaving money on the table that we could be making privately in exchange for extra benefits like leave and pensions. But some public sector workers are getting more than others.

Oh, I agree. I get less than that and am in a higher role than the one OP is referring to. I'd be paid far more if I was working in my equivalent grade for DCC than I am in the civil service.

I just don't think the solution is to reduce everyone else's benefits.

The solution isn't to pay up either. Civil service contract disparity is rampant and unfair. I work the same job as someone else in my department but he's actually a contractor. He has to file taxes as self employed even though we do the same job. Unbelievable.

    Why so?
Lots of employments offered opportunities to accumulate extra days off...

Where are you getting 43 days from?

I used to work 70 hours a week in the private sector and never got paid overtime.
I work an extra 11 hours in the CS a month. I get it back.

My Old boss in DCC joined 28years ago as a tco. Recently got grade 5.
The one bit of advice I got was that interviews are all about what you say in those 25 minutes.
    It was good advice.
