Depends on location - average price per hours lesson is €30-€35

some will do a deal if you block book you will get at a slightly reduced rate

I suppose they can't afford to do it much cheaper than that when you take into account all their expenses.

Cant imagine you would get it any cheaper, its pretty much the average rate - well in Dublin anyway

Without asking anyone I know I'm looking for the cheapest option to get more time driving around Finglas before the test where I can go out for an hour or two every few days so trying to find the cheapest option.

I have had lessons at €35 per hour and wondering if I can do much better price wise.

Its its just driving time and practice would you not be better off asking a mate or someone with a full licence to sit with you while you drive around or do you need someone to actually watch what you are doing in case of mistakes ect?

I wouldn't want to ask a mate to drive their car until I was more confident driving.

Basically I just want to drive around the Finglas routes with someone who will point out mistakes from time to time but other than that I'm just off doing my own thing for an hour.

I presume you don't have a car of your own. That leaves you with little option to do what you want. Booking lessons/pre-tests is the only way really.

I'm contacting as many instructors as I can find now to see who will give me the cheapest price as I have a good driving instructor and just need more (and cheaper) time driving between lessons with her.

Its kind of a messed up situation for learners. The law states you can't drive unaccompanied at any time.
A lot of people don't have friends / family that can dedicate the time required to learn.
Driving lessons are extremely expensive. (especially if its your only access to a car)
Insurance on a provisional? Get ready to open your wallet.

I did my first test at the beginning of this year. I had mainly just been driving every other day during lessons and paying through the nose for it. I failed the test by a few points.

Drove everyday for almost 6 months. Passed the test.

You basically need to drive a lot to get good. Doing lessons isn't enough (For me at least)

    That's exactly it Jacdaniel,

Having 1 lesson a week is not good enough as I'm just settling in by the time it's over but it's very expensive to do more.

I'm getting quotes at the moment from a few instructors I contacted earlier and one Dublin company just quoted me €54 an hour!!!

Why would anyone use them when there are good instructors charging €35 but I see their cars regularly around my area. Madness.

I have an offer at the moment for €30 and trying to see if anyone offers €25 which will allow me to do 2 or 3 lessons a week.

It's actually ridiculously cheap when you realise it's training not to kill anyone while using a 1 Tonne vehicle for the rest of your life.

I only passed my driving test at Easter and didn't have my own car before i took my test, didn't have access to a car either or anyone with a full licence to take me out in their car - sorry i miss-understood you, I thought you had your own car and just wanted someone to go out with you to give you more confidence, i was just taking one lesson per week and then went to 2 a week once i had test date - it was expensive but worth it in the end

    I know what you mean:)

The way I look at it, the cheaper the hourly rate the more lessons I can do and the safer a driver I will be:)

How many lessons, including EDT, would you say you did in total?

I didn't have to do the EDT - I started taking driving lessons years ago and took my test but failed so just kept renewing my prov licence but never applied for the test (never actually drove either) so once it changed from prov to learners permit i was just able to change over - I started taking lessons again properly late last year and was doing 1 every 2 weeks for a while then started 1 a week - id say i might between 20-30 which i know is a lot but it was worth it in the end - my instructor was very good and you got an actual hour of driving with him - with some the lesson lasts an hour and that includes them talking to you and going over everything but with this guy he has you driving for an actual hour and will go through everything in detail with you after

Would it be possible to get a discount if you took two hours together?
The instructor would be saving some time by not having to change people.

Thank you - I took my test in Tallaght - lots of relieved tears afterwards!! Have my own car now and dont know myself!

Definitely cheaper if you block book. The driving school I'm with charges €500 for 20 lessons, so works out at €25 per lesson. Perfect for me as I have nobody to practice with either so need as many as I can get!!
