Octavia BXE engine low oil pressure warning

Intermittent warning light coming on on a 2009 Octavia 1.9TDI BXE engine with about 240k miles.

    I've had following done
    *replaced pressure switch
*pressure tested with engine holding 4 bar
*engine pick up perfect and sludge free
*mechanics says engine looks almost new with no signs of wear, bearings perfect etc.

Car has been very well maintained by me for last 6 years (150k).

    Electrical/electronic issue?

Thinking of switching off waring light and taking my chances at this stage.

    Any thoughts?

    Hello :),

When does it happen - when the engine is hot and idling? Or when taking a sharp corner?

It would be best to see the actual measured oil pressure when the warning light comes on.

It has happened so infrequently it is hard to say and hard to replicate; but has only happened when engine definitely.

Have since found a damaged sensor (physically damaged but not showing up as a fault) near sump which senses oil level. Hopefully this was the issue

Its a weird one, given its a BXE I'd assumed engine was for graveyard and a trip to UK was on cards! My wife now drives car, but given that brakes, tyres, discs etc are like new I'd hate to get rid of it.

You sure it’s not the oil level sensor that’s causing ur problem. These have being known to go from time to time.
Failing that if you have changed the switch the problem is in the loom. The wiring could be cought on something or between something and every so ofton earthing out.

Yeah thanks for that. I've replaced sensor so hopefully that was it.

Replacing water pump on c220 fixed my coolant loss issue; a thread you replied to also!

    Thanks again
