No, xx block came with later 10 series. IMHO they're a better engine than the originals if you want to work the tractor.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Yes marginally better but still one of the worst engines ever made ford rarely made a good engine be it car truck or tractor

Ford made an amount of rubbish but the 401S engines in the TW's were a very good engine.

I think they got it right with the last of the 10 series III engines. If the water conditioner was kept in them they've given good service.

What ford engines have you owned?

I've had them all from the dexta up but excluding a tw . I'm including a couple of new Holland combines with the ford d series engines as well what a nightmare . I suppose there's the odd exception the 7810 engine was durable and noisy . The gen 3 ran well but was a light engine that didn't like hardship . On balance most other tractor manufacturers had much better engines .
That doesn't take away from the fact that the rest of the old ford's were great machines. Take the 7000 great gearbox dual power excellent brakes and final drives and a lift capacity ahead of its time . Ford's worst tractor were the early 10 series .

Well you've owned more than I have so. I have only owned 2 from brand new and they have both been good. I thought those 6 cylinder D series engines had a good rep, perhaps over heating in a combine wouldn't do them any good? They were in a lot of county tractors too.
