BMW 320d service questions

    Hey,

I was looking at buying a used BMW 320d EffectiveDynamics 2012 it has 160,000Km clocked on it. Is there anything I should be worried about? How much does servicing cost on the BMW’s for this aged one? If I needed to get a new clutch or water pump what’s the cost on it if I went to a BMW garage or maybe a third party one instead?

    Thanks.

Hi listen I’m a bmw mechanic. Firstly you can forget about the clutch or water pump. You would only replace the clutch if it was on the way out. Some as the flywheel. Which the shouldn’t be anyway. Then the water pumps don’t give trouble on them models.
As for your servicing that really depends one service the same as any other car u could need a oil air fuel pollen filters. The next might only be a oil service then the next service u could need brake pads all around. But look you have that on any car.
So going to a Indy for you first service let’s just presume u need oil air fuel and pollen. I’d imagine is Gona cost u between 250-300 Euro

Insist on a verifiable service history. Then verify it!

The timing chain is the main thing to be worrying about, those engines have a problem with the chain and it's very expensive to fix because the chain is at the back of the engine not the front like in most cars.

If it were me I'd be changing the oil at least every 9,000 miles / 15,000 km or once a year and ignore the car's variable servicing guidelines (which typically say you can do double that).

Chain has prob being done at this stage I’d imagine. Good advice about the oil changes. But to do the chain isn’t that expensive any more. It’s actually quite easy when you have done a few
