Anyone able to quickly confirm what time this starts on Saturday morning? Website headline says 10.35am but also makes reference to a 10am start a couple of lines further down.

    Thanks

Sunday! My bad, thanks for clarifying. Would have been an interesting Saturday morning out in the Business Park otherwise!

Looking at the course profile it seems like it's flat enough. Anybody familiar with those roads?

Bit of a drag soon after the start before the turn into Corkagh Park. Mostly downhill or flat in the park, another drag before the left turn heading for Clondalkin village, flat or slightly downhill through the village and the trip back up the canal path is slightly uphill, nothing anything like the hills that are in the Rock & Roll half !!!

So you give your entry to somebody who has a medical emergency during the race and your wife/partner/mother gets a phone call to say that you are in a bad way in hospital......thats why they dont allow number swopping.

    I didn't ask why, I asked how.

    Big brother is watching you

You could not get caught however if it is brought to organisers attention you can face life bans from these events.

There are a host of reasons why the organizers don't do transfers but ultimately its a rule which was laid out clearly in terms and conditions so they are well within there right to punish those not acting in accordance to said terms.

That was possibly the most humid day I’ve ever done a run like that in. No breeze until hitting the canal made it very tough

Great course if maybe a little bit crowded at times because of some of the narrow paths. Hope it's there again next year though. Was very humid alright.

Great flat course and very easy to get get in and out of venue. Brilliant organisation.

Only thing I missed today was the regular MC, love that guy! Heard he’s recouperating from something, if so, get well soon!

There was a guy in a blue t-shirt towards the end that told me to push on when I was flagging in the last mile, if he’s reading, I hope he knows he’s an absolute gent, saved my race!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭justfortherecor

Really enjoyed that. Seamless organisation, easy one to drive in and out of. I enjoyed the curved road by the lake for the finish line as well, not what I was expecting within a business park! Humidity was a bit up but didn't hurt performance overall I think.

Well done organisers, great job today.

Found the first 3k awful, reminded me off the start of swords, (boring dual carriageway with awful surface). Usual clowns starting too near the front made for a messy start. But course and congestion improved by Corkagh park, 5-7k were meh, and water station needs work.
The tow path was nice and finish area was fine, although I was not happy with a 250ml water bottle and only one per person?? ridiculous considering conditions, 500ml bottle of water at finish is pretty standard across the spectrum.

Certainly need to improve the race page with public transport and maybe cycle route information, some really good competitor booklets being provided for other races nowadays!

Good first run for this event, with some room for improvement!

Really enjoyed that, superbly organised. Found the canal mentally tough, I run it a lot, further south and am used to the monotony of it but something about today made it feel a challenge.

Wouldn't have thought the business park suitable but it was perfect, fair play to whoever proposed it.

Delighted to see so much positivity towards my hometown :) For me, race was lovely, but v tough. I found the start very lonely and boring. Park lovely, the village was great and I didn't even mind the canal heading back.

Physically, my legs were tired and didn't have a PB in them, but I was still surprised that I finished in the time I did. Business park was a brilliant location and the end of the race was brilliant - the curve in the road meant that you weren't staring the finish line out of it for ages.

Loved it and would love to see the 10k back here next year.

Mixed day for me! Major plus was the great organisation - ideal location for a race start, plenty of parking and for me the shuttle from Red Cow was very handy! On the negative side my legs werent there today, first 6k were excellent, kept to nice flat splits at a conservative pace, but I blew up slightly in the heat on the canal - disappointed and a bit outside my best but still enjoyed myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 989 ✭✭✭Birdsong

Enjoyed the race, thought it was very well organised and great route. Local to me.

Only feedback would be given the 10.35 start & the weather at the moment, they could have done with another water station. Maybe when tuning in the park, plenty of room there for a stand.

No offence but if your able to use boards, you can google transport to the area.

    Agree.

And also, on the one bottle per person thing, I asked for a second bottle and the guy said sorry to me, really genuinely, that they just wanted to make sure they had enough stock to cover everyone. He then gently reminded me that I had a 500ml Lucozade sport in my goody bag.

I thought that was fair and reasonable. These events don't make money guys, they put on a great event for us, let's play ball with them and stop expecting to be spoonfed.

I really enjoyed the race this morning. Good route and organisation. My only negative was not being able to see the finish line until right at the end. I like to see it getting nearer..

I loved the route and thought Grangecastle worked really well - easy access to get to.

The humidity was something else coming up the canal.

Ok, well it was a fair an honest assessment. I love to race and try an support as many as possible. I don't think a bit of constructive critical analysis goes astray. Good 1st run for this event, with some room to improve what's wrong with enunciating that?

Not sure if you race a lot pal! but the standard out there is very high. Sycophantic gushing is pointless and will hardly move things forward. This didn't even make in to my top ten this year! Although I do look forward to it getting even better and establishing itself on the race calendar.

Point taken, but can't really agree. I race a lot and probably around 500 in the last 10 years and I can count on one hand the number of times I came away without enough water. I expect more from these guys, they are at it long enough.

Yes I can google thanks for that, had a nice 15k cycle out! but canal cycle path was closed on the way back with the race still on so bit more work. Honestly I'm not trying to be a dick, look at the race booklets out there, Clontarf half for example, every i dotted and t crossed. Why not encourage race organisers to raise their game!

That's certaintly a bit unfair as it depends what direction you came from. We used google maps, as did many others, and we all ended up in the wrong Grange Castle business park. Some routes like off the Naas road must have been well signposted but there was certaintly nothing in the construction site we were brought to.

I think the whole event went well.

The water station really annoyed me as much later than it was supposed to be.

The little water bottles they gave at the finish would have been more suitable out on the course with the heat of the day.

I was much faster than I thought I would be but the canal was really tough. Kept telling myself it was less than x minutes left running. Got a PB and completely unexpected.

Long queue to get out in traffic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,287 ✭✭✭crisco10

Nice day out in a part of Dublin I am not familiar with at all! I followed google maps until I started to see signs for race traffic and got parked quickly etc. (I had done a bit of research before and knew the potential for google to send you to "Grange Business Park South" so knew to avoid that!)

Course itself was pretty nice, I struggled a bit on the long canal drag and my pace suffered for it. Not sure what it was, maybe the monotony or the gentle headwind, but I really was close to slowing down dramatically, and as it was they were my two slowest kilometers. Enjoyed the last 300m of gentle bends around the lake in the business park.

Finished in 40:01 which is a frustrating time, still a PB, but clearly 2 seconds quicker would have been nicer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,574 ✭✭✭Glencarraig

Guys, I appreciate that people found the canal stretch difficult, yes it was humid but remember, water flows downhill, you were running against the flow so you were running slightly uphill for a few k's and of course it felt harder than the flat/downhill section you had run just before you turned onto the canal.

I personally found it to be a lovely course, and was delighted to see that the path in Corkagh had been resurfaced since I was there for a parkrun a few weeks ago.
Hats of the South Dublin County Council for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭gypsylee

I thought it was a great event. Plenty of parking, nice wee walk to the start, plenty of toilets.

Loved the route. I don't know the area at all so it was nice to run somewhere different. I thought the canal section was lovely and the support along the route was great. Nice and flat.

Liked the fact that I was not looking at the finish line for ages before I reached it.

Well done to all involved on a great day.

Really enjoyed this one. Not a fan of cups of water at water stations but that's just a personal preference. It happens in other races too. I'd have been happier with the bottle during the race and the cups of water at end.

Liked the variety of the course route and loved the start/finish area. Was a really nice setting for that.

I'd definitely sign up again for this one

Not a fan of the cups either - I wonder were the just worried the bottles would end up in the canal as we went by....??

Other then that great race - would love it to be back there again next year!

    Pros
    nice venue
first time in Corkagh Park and always
    nice to trot along canal
    organisation excellent
no delays of note in or out
    decent turnout from locals
    nice day for it
    Plenty of places to wee

    Cons
can't drink from cups during a run without stopping so skipped the water break
shuttle bus from red cow should have kept going until 10 or 10:15
tshirts a bit crap. Last years fabric was better

all in all a positive experience.

Found the going tough. I was on the money for the first 5k but then suffered a bit. Heat was an issue but in reality body was a bigger issue

Not sure if it was down to the cups per se, but I did find there was a lot of surface water on the road at the drink station, I slipped going through, stayed upright but very nearly went arse over tit.

I really enjoyed it (inasmuch as you can enjoy these things) but I'm bit surprised at everyone saying how easy it was to get into. I sat in almost stationary traffic for almost half an hour waiting to turn into the business park. Ended up parking a long way off and only picked up my number 5mins before the start of the race! I made a hasty exit after the race in the assumption there would be similar issues leaving

Cups are something you will need to get use to. Alot of the big races will use cups. Its good practice it

Tried and can't without stopping. There was a bottle in my goody bag on Sunday I may use from now on.
