As the title says where do you buy the wormer for your dog. Do you use the like of maxi zoo or your local vet. Which is cheapest.
Also are all wormers the same (equally as good) Thanks

I buy from the vet. Spot ons for the cats, tablets for the dogs.

I think the veterinary stuff is better personally.

Furry rabbits ears from zooplus :p Fur is a natural wormer. I don’t use any chemical crap and every worm count has come back clear.

Always from the vet, they have the broadest-spectrum wormers. TK I know you do worm counts? But the rabbit ears are only going to hit adult worms in the gastro-intestinal tract.

There's no eggs... as per the worm counts. Much cheaper too.

Worm counts hit and miss... I'd always be inclined to worm as my neighbours' puppy and adult dogs are never wormed so the ground is likely badly contaminated. (We share common green.)

I'm not aware of wormers from the vets being better? Spot on you can definitely buy online, though I might be missing something!

If I am, let me know - I worm regularly because my dogs eat EVERYTHING. We are on a grain farm and so they're not allowed to eat dead vermin in case they contain poison. We seem to have a tacit understanding that they'll give up those in exchange for getting to eat every other disgusting thing they find... I currently buy online but if there's a better wormer out there then I'll start including that in my cycle!

Wormers from vets are often milbemycin which is not available over the counter, it covers lung worm and is dosed every 3 months. Others are often every 4 or 6 weeks such as ivermectin, praziquantel etc. We have fenbendazole resistance occurring so it is prudent to avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

Worm counts are great - do make sure they are on a sample taken over several days as dogs are not conveyor belts and one sample is not representative. Also make sure you are asking for lung worm as it's often an add on and it is fatal if not caught early (Angiostrongylus vasorum)

I think I'm going totally mad.

I picked up Interceptor online the last time I wormed which includes milbemycin oxime. Recommended dosage is 4 weeks rather than 3 months - might be less strong than veterinary prescribed wormers?

I find it easier to order online as I have to drive to get to either my vet or the local maxi zoo.

Yep thats what I always do - €13 for composite/3 day sample for worms and lungworm. And they're in Ireland so no embarrassing questions at the post office :pac::pac:

Monthly treatment with milbemycin oxime will prevent lungworm.

I buy drontal wormer online for both dogs and cats, also but flea treatment online, generic type like front line. I'll only treat for fleas if I see them, but I worm every 3months, lot cheaper online.

I get Milbemax tablets for my dog and cats from the vets. Never had any problems with them.

Sorry for not coming back earlier thanks to everyone for the replies. Got them in Maxi Zoo this time 12 euro for two.

Ok just as a follow up my dog is seriously anti medicine I'm beginning to think she knows when the 3 months up.
Anyhow I decided to crush the wormer and mix it up with ham mashed potato and gravy which she normally would go mad for. But no way would she eat it not if I kissed her ass.
So nothing for it only buy another tablet, just one as I had a half one left. Went to a vets this time and he gave me a generic one with the same active ingredients he said, for 3 euro .
So 2 drontal ones in Maxi Zoo 11.98 euro and 2 generic ones in the vets would I presume be 6 euro. That's a very big difference.
Back to the old system of administration, dropping it on the back of her tongue and keeping her mouth closed and job done for another 3 months.
