Hi all, I work in a kids club in a hotel as a part time job and I've came to the conclusion that after I've finshed school I would love to work with kids. However I've looked into childcare jobs and noticed that the pay is terrible and hard to live by. I've spoken to a few people that work in the childcare section and they have 2 jobs just to keep them going. I would love to become a primary school teacher but unfortunately I don't do honours irish which is a requirement for all primary teaching courses. Does anyone know of any other childcare jobs with reasonably good pay?

Childminder, cash in hand. You'll make a lot more and you are your own boss.

There is a difference between cash in hand and an exemption.
A childminder can earn up to 15k tax free and pay voluntary PRSI ,a penny over that and they are taxed the same as everyone else.

On paper maybe, but in reality you won't grass your babysitter to the tax man and risk losing her.

Nobody ever tells anybody they know how much they pay their babysitter.

Revenue would have no trouble in estimating a figure ;)
