    Hi

How can I check this? It's a 2013 BMW 520d. I'm looking to change the oil and was wondering how many litres do I need, I would think 5-6? Thanks

Coming from a bmw mechanic hear the n47 engine takes 5 litres and 5.2 if you have fitted a new oil filter.

    5.2L as has been said.

Have you seen the size of the oil filter.. It's tiny.

I always change the filter with every oil change.

I change oil & filter every 14 or 15k km

Are there really people out there who don't change oil filters with oil changes?

I thought this was best practice and have always done both.

Plenty of people only change the filter , every second service.

The problem is, Manufacturers have come up with rediculas service intervals.
Having said that... BMW reduceded the service interval for the BMW f30, from 2014 onwards... I wonder why. (15,000miles to 10,000 miles)

I know a guy who bought a 2yr old 520d f10, and boasted how great a car it was cos he didn't have to lift the bonnet in 2yrs.

It's a 2012, that he bought in 2014, and he only had it serviced once in 2016, it's prob due another service this year. !

Absolute madness to cheap out on such a cheap part. I always changed oil and filters at 15k km max

As regards the two year service intervals, doesn't every other manufacturer say to change after one regardless of mileage as the oil can lose its quality and cleaning agents for the engine?

I queried with my local BMW dealership how much a full service would cost for my car including oil filter, micro filter, air filter, fuel filter and vehicle check and the total was €630. I was fully expecting this price. I will now get all the parts myself and get a family friend who runs a garage to do everything for a third of the price? The only downside of course is I won't have a BMW stamp in the service book. Is it possible to reset the "service due" computer warning and the vehicle status warnings myself or does a garage need to do it?

    Thanks

You know in the iDrive menu, when you go into vehicle status and theres a triange beside Engine Oil etc. can I reset that or does it need to be plugged in?

Also, why does fitting run flat tyres cost so much more than normal tyres? 40 quid to fit per tyre in Atlas. Madness.

    Thanks

€40 per tyre does seem a bit extreme, maybe they don't want to take on that kind of work.

Usually it's because a run flat tyre has a much thicker sidewall than a regular tyre to allow it to run flat. The thicker sidewall is harder to break the bead on and harder to lever around the rim to remove and refit.
