A SPANISH public servant who skipped work for a decade without anyone noticing spent his free time running a male brothel and drawing erotic comics.
Carles Recio, who was paid a 50,000 euro ($80,000) salary as an archives director in Valencia’s provincial government, would show up to the office every morning at 7:30am to clock in using the fingerprint scanner before heading home, only returning to the office at 3:30pm to clock out.
He kept up the routine for 10 years before colleagues began to raise suspicions. After Spanish newspaper El Mundo broke the story 18 months ago, Mr Recio was finally sacked, despite his insistence that he had done nothing wrong.

He got away with it too as he simply can't hold a public job for 9 years.

    But he also did this...
It also emerged Mr Recio had been running a male brothel out of his home since 2005. At one point he threatened to reveal the identities of his clients, warning there may have been cameras inside and the “graphic information” could compromise many politicians.
As part of his high-profile campaign to clear his name, Mr Recio even attempted to use a council venue for an art exhibition entitled, “Love for Valencia: the works of a man who never worked”, with four floors of works including paintings, sculptures and even a bronze bust of himself.
The City of Valencia cancelled the show, which described Mr Recio as “the most slandered writer in modern-day Valencia”, just before it was due to open after the council discovered he had booked the venue using a fake name.

He seemed to have too much going on to keep everyone serviced.

I'm impressed he got away with that for so long

"Mr Recio was making a name for himself as a erotic comic book artist and creator of the popular character Fallarela, a busty superhero who hurls flaming Valencia oranges at her enemies" :D:D

Work colleagues must have been getting some kind of kickbacks to allow this to happen.

I work a very stressful job, often walking up in the middle of the night thinking of stuff I have to do. I actually admire the cojones on a fella like that to not give a flying fúck. Its not like anyone died because of lack of access to the archives while he was away sculpting and his other little business.

I would also like to point out that I am a happily married man and I have never actually physically admired his cojones.

Fine, decent, hard-working man holding down three jobs to make ends meet in these evil days. Bravo. Good show!

Can we direct all future complaints about the Irish Public Sector workers to this thread?

Well no one can say he was lazy as he did keep very busy.

And his time keeping appears to have been exemplary. :D

I am not allowed discuss …

There is a great Irish short story about something similar happening as the state switched from British control to the free state.
Mervyn Wall's - They Also Serve.

    He didn't open a brothel though. :)

That kinda reminds of the guy working in IT who had outsourced his programming job to some chinese fella's.

When the whole thing was uncovered it turned out he held several jobs like that, all outsourced to china :D

If I remember correctly the company could only fire him for violating IT security policies. Turns out there was nothing in his contract forbidding him from outsourcing the work!!!

If he had leverage over some politician in power, it might explain how he was not fired during the previous decade as well.

If you were waking up in the middle of the night with job related stress to pay the taxes that funded this dossers lifestyle would your admiration be unwavering?

    Noted.
