Are these young barn owls?

For the last few weeks we have been noticing a sharp squeak call coming from a local tree. On a walk tonight I noticed these two sitting in the tree. Am I right in thinking they are young barn owls? And if so should I notify anyone about them (BirdWatch Ireland?)

Barn Owls make a hissing noise. They look like young owls. I'm just not sure what kind of Owl they are.

Yes, it’s unusual. I have listen to some calls online. And it’s not like any I can find. The closest is the barn or maybe a little owl.

    Long eared owls?

Thank you, just found a young long eared owl call and that’s it. As described, it’s like a gate that needs to be oiled.

The tufts on their heads were what gave it away for me :)

Best to send the record to the Irish Raptor Study Group - monitoring@irsg.ie with a grid ref, date you saw them, number of chicks you think there are etc!
