    Hi
I'm separated from my husband the last year - can anyone advise me if I can apply for this payment if we are both living under the same roof? He cant afford to move out at the moment as he pays the mortgage on the house we own. We don't see much of each other as he works eve and the current arrangement works.Rang citizens advice and they told me I cant apply for it separately as we live together and would take his income into consideration . I explained we are living completely separate lives & are separated. and have been for the last year. I only work 20 hours per week as I had to change job to take care of my kids .
    any advice appreciated!
    Thanks.

Fill in the application form and attach a letter from yourself explaining the situation.
As situations like yours have become more frequent there is a certain amount of discretion that applies now.
A local SW inspector will call, unannounced to verify your side of the story and check paperwork ie joint account being closed, weekly amounts of maintenance being paid by him into your account, evidence of separate lives being lived.
