Trimming hedges these days

I have some hedges which need trimming / clipping - beech, laurel, and evergreen oak (three different hedges). All are reasonably mature, there a good few years.
Is it ok to trim in these hot very dry times, or is there a risk that it will stress the plants and damage the hedge long-term?
    Thanks in advance

I’d leave it until they see some rain again.

    Shouldn’t be long now.

I just looked this up yesterday, as I'm in the same boat. The recommendation is not to trim during drought due to stress on the plants.

Also in same boat and it’s best to wait

Thought as much, but I'm very much an amateur gardener, and didn't know if I was being overcautios with established hedges.
Came here for more expert opinion, and got it. Thanks guys.

Light quick trimming of garden hedges in July doesn't pose a threat to bird nests.

    Absolutely correct

Yes, birds generally nest in previous years' growth, so lightly trimming tender new growth is no problem. Just be careful not to leave visible any nest you do come across - or the magpies will be in there immediately.
