Just went into sign on today, and I've a meeting on Thursday.

They want me to bring bank statements and I have a good few grand in savings. Will this affect my application? I've been working the last 6 years so as far as I know I won't be means tested. So I'm not sure why they want to see my statements.

I've also just arrived back from traveling, so haven't had time to look for work. They want proof of efforts to find work. How can I get this evidence in the next few days? I haven't updated my CV in 6 years, so it'll take a while to do. I might have one job applied for by the time the meeting comes around. What sort of proof are they looking for?

    Thanks

Habitual residency proof - because you were travelling. Also you might not have any prsi contributions. 6 years working is not relevant, they only use 9 months worth of stamps from the previous year.

    What does that mean?

I was employed through all of 2017.

Prove that you actually live in Ireland, and aren't just flying in occasionally to claim welfare. Bank statements can be used towards this, if they show evidence of local purchases, rent payment etc.

When you say you were working do you mean in Ireland or abroad while travelling?
How long have you been travelling /out of the country?

I was working in Ireland up until 30th March 2018. Then I quit and went traveling. I just came back.

Your bank statement should prove when you were in Ireland vs out of the country, just show them.

If you have prsi contributions (as you seem to have) then savings don't matter.

You can have up to 30 grand in the bank if I recall rightly, before they give you a reduced payment.

"Do you wish to apply for optional jobseeker's allowance if you do not qualify for the full rate of JObseeker's benefit?"

Is this a trick question? I'm guessing the answer is yes?

It’s 20000 and that’s for JSA, not Benefit.

Yes is the answer. Your bringing bank statements in case you don’t have enough PRSI for Benefit(looks as if you have).
