hi recently moved into a new house.

wanted to do some work to the garden but before this wanted to make sure any changes i potentially make to the drainage wont come back later requiring to dig it up.

i was wondering is it possible to get someone in to advice on drainage, foul systems etc and who does this type of work. i.e engineer or who ?

i had an engineer review house when purchased but he didnt go into recommendations on drainage for future.

What work is it you are doing in the garden specifically ?

And what is the concern on the drainage ?

want to start routing some electrical cables for power to shed and also create patio area. There is a basement where on outside water gathers sometimes.

basically just want an engineer or other to review the waste, water and drainage and give advice , trying to see who does this however.

You’ve answered your own question. Look for registered engineers or building surveyors in your immediate area.

Your local Dynorod franchise (or similar) will do a drainage survey with cameras and map out your system. They'll let you know where everything is going, and can let you know what you might want to consider.

You'll definitely want dedicated drainage for the patio. They'll probably suggest a slight slope and a channel drain on one side of patio, connected to your storm system.

If your basement sometimes takes in water, you could have a general drainage issue - all the more reason to purchase a survey (they'll clean at the same time). There might be old clay pipes under (or even above) the bottom level of your basement which are not clearing the water to the sewer fast enough, or could even have partial collapse or holes. Worse still, a neighbours drain might be causing the issue if they're linked. It's also possible that the drains are fine, but underspecced for the volume of water during heavier rainfall - potentially exacerbated by run-off from a a neighbour's system if they haven't been considering the drains like you're planning to.

Either way, survey survey survey. If you're digging the place up anyway, it might be worth modernising the drains while you're at it.
