Hi we are looking to build on an site with plenty of houses around it however the council have told us that its close to a natural heritage site and there is a possibility of bats. Has anyone come across this issue before and what happened. Hoping we can pass this hurdle and that we won't be denied planning on this basis.

All depends on the survey and if the development is likely to hinder the natural life of the bats in question.

I have come across it before. Google for bat surveyors contact them , obtain fees and get the survey done. Most probably you will be obliged with no more than cautioned not to interfere with existing habitats and you may be obliged to add features in the house design to provide for future habitats. No big deal these are just pvc housings you can affix high up on your gable ends.
