he said he duffed it, rather he did his duffing here on Friday as opposed to duffing his approach on Sun evening

Disappointing back 9 but in a wonderful position now going into the weekend

finishes at 8 under, could have been much better however even 8 under will feel like a steel given his last 5 holes.

He’d have bitten your hand off for joint leader after two rounds (Fritellii might change that) though so he can come out tomorrow with a positive mindset and see where it takes him

He looked extremely stressed. The weather on Sunday is to be bad. I think his best chance is to be in maybe the third or fourth last group on Sunday. Maybe no more than three off the lead

That up and down from Lowry at the 15th was class, I was there earlier for a couple of hours and nobody that went in that bunker got it within 20 feet of the pin

It might be better as well if Fritelli manages to get to -9 and push him out of the final group tomorrow

Cant see your logic there, top 70 +ties go through , which currently leaves projected cut at +1. There are an awful number of players on +2

Well if there are 71 at +1 all it would take is 2 of the +1's to drop and shot and then all the +2's are in as otherwise only 69 would get in....

great shot but they did say that he got a fortunate lie due to the raking not being done correctly after the last player in there that did enable that.

    Great interview with Shane

Lowry has got some fortunate outcomes of bad shots there in the last 4 holes!

Most of that fortune has come on the back of an excellent short game tbf

I think the favorites now would have to be rose and brooks. Tomorrow is a massive day. I wouldn’t be surprised if rahm shot a low score tomorrow also. He again though has a questionable temperament

Anyone else keep expecting Fritelli to rip his jumper and glasses off and fly away?

17th - went way right - got fortunate lie out and was able to get railings relief
bunker lie - due to raking before got a lie that sat up in a difficult bunker
missed par 3 - could have gone down the hill but stayed up near green

3 times that he was lucky

The more I think about that last few holes I think he has very little chance of winning this. I hope I’m wrong but I can’t see it.

He hit an excellent bunker shot and holed a good putt.

It could have gone down the hill but he didnt hit it down the hill so it didnt.
It also could have gone in the hole but he didnt hit it there either so it didnt.

    Fritelli back to -6

That missed short putt by Rory is going to cost him.

    But this is highly entertaining

Same again could happen tomorrow and gets unfortunate lies and doubles come along. Also remember the front nine may not produce as many birdies for him

Mcilroy 4 under after 11 holes, + 4 now, a couple more birdies and he will have a chance of weekend golf.

look just saying that he could easily be a few shots worse off.

I hope he wins but he doesn't have the calmness under pressure that some of the guys within spitting distance have.

It's a long way to go - hope he knocks it out of the park tomorrow

You could apply that logic to 90% of anyone who has ever won anything though.

Its not like he was frequently carving it into railings and it bounced back into play or anything.

This upcoming par 5 is key now for Rory. Birdie it and he has a chance to make the cut but I think if he pars it, it will be curtains.

They were wondering on the Guardian live feed when was the last bearded open winner and they reckoned you have to go all the way back to old Tom Morris.

We have Holmes, Lowry and Fleetwood all there to end that barren run.

“I had such a good lie there, it was almost too good”. If that ball had run to the bottom of the bunker, as it would have if not for the botched raking before him, no way he gets it inside 15 feet. Of course he hit a great shot as well, but he was also fortunate.

It'll be some performance by McIlroy if he makes it. I think he needs the eagle here though. Last six don't give you much.

Eagle it, it’s a drive and a flick once he hits the fairway

That’s fair enough but he was losing his cool on the back nine on a Friday. He may not have the temperament at the highest level

    Again I hope I wrong

Frittelli lucky not to be OB on 18.
