Payment of arrears?

Some of you knowledgeable people might be able to answer or give an opinion on this query.

A mate's son was put on Disability Allowance recently. He applied in March and I think he got his first payment during the week. However during that period he was getting a weekly payment from the HSE I think (community officer?) and Im told that he is due to get arrears as the HSE payment is much less than the disability payment. Would anyone have an idea as to how long (approx.) it takes the SW to pay the arrears?

    Cheers.

I didn't think you could get back when the Community Welfare Officer paid you?

Would his local welfare office know?

He will get his arrears sometime in the next 3 months. First DA have to contact the local CWO to find out how much your mates son got.
This takes time, especially at this time of the year.
So the arrears will be €198 per week since the date mentioned on the letter, less whatever the CWO was paying.

They got a letter out saying that arrears, if applicable, would be paid but didnt say when. Apparently the HSE welfare officer was paying about €90 a week less than what the SW is paying so Im fairly sure he would be entitled to the difference.

Good question and I dont know if they ever asked there or not but I sort of volunteered to ask the question here so maybe that stopped them asking in the local sw office.

Yeah, that was my reading of the situation also regarding the arrears or back payment. So Id probably be safe enough to tell them 3 months approx and if they get it sooner its a bonus

Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated :)
