Hello all. Just want to ask a question regarding early NCT testing. I was about to give them a ring but looks like they only answer phones Monday to Friday.

If a cars NCT due date is 16th of October and you want to avail of the 90 day early test what is the soonest it can be done. Would it have to be the 16th of July at the earliest or is there a bit of leeway on the 90 days.......could you bring a car in on the 14th for example.

    Thanks.

If its more than 90 days away from its due date the new nct will expire on the anniversary of passing the test.

If you test it within 90 days of the nct due date the new nct will expire on tge anniversary of the due date.

If you try book online it will warn you if the date falls under the voluntary early test.

So if I test for example 95 days early I will get a year ? or just get 3 and a bit months to October the 16th ?

    So damn confusing :-)

Greater than 90 days early you get 1 year from the date of your test.
At 95 days you get 1 year.

    Thanks for the replies.

I remember before testing a car early and only getting 7 months or so due to the date of registration or something like that. It must have changed since so.

I think that some time ago they brought in a change so that , for example , you wanted to sell your car and it had only 5/6 months test you could bring it in and if it passed you would get 1 yr from date of test.
Prior to this you would only get until the next due date.
The one year test applies to cars over 10 yrs old - I presume the same would apply to cars under 10 yrs which get a 2 yr cert .

Confusing??? .. Yeah if you are intellectually challenged and can't count to 90 :D

Here, Google even makes it easy for you... put in the date and subtract 90 days

I take it you are a comedian.

Confusing because it is not explained very well by the NCT. And my suspicions were correct. Car was taken for the NCT and only got 3 months in total up to its date of first registration.
