I put escort cosworth bonnet vents on a Mazda 323... I also put pink wiper blades on it because I thought it looked good. I guess I was abit of a boyracer back in the early 2000's lol.

What did you do that you are embarrassed of now that your a respectable grown up person?

hehehehe, well, after all, you wouldn't want someone accidentally firing off your Exocets.

My own was to put go faster stripes (with 'GT' emblazoned on it) on a Cortina MK3 1300L. GT my ar$e.

Had a friend who installed a telephone handset in the glove box and a red bulb above the glove box. By operating a hidden rocker switch he could make the bulb flash, then open the glove box , pull out the handset and say something James Bond-like into the mouthpiece. Apparently it really impressed the girls. ( this is LONG before mobile phones).

I put a 323F GT DOHC 16V banner on my 323F GT just in case someone couldn’t read the badges on the rear and was wondering what it was and wanted to know the engine/can/valve configuration.

I'm on my first car and unfortunately the Fast and Furious/Need for Speed Underground days are past us. Although in future if I get something with some poke I may switch the diverter valve for a blow off valve provided it doesn't have a MAF. Easy to stay off the boost commuting so shouldn't be annoying. Unlike every ricer with a fart pipe exhaust around Clondalkin I have to listen to scream struggling to redline in 3rd gear...

Maybe not so cool on a Kia Rio.

I had a big SONY sticker in the back window of one of my cars, had a lot of Sony Xplod (yeah yeah) stuff in it.

Also had stupid font number plates on another car. Nothing offensive but not standard.

The infamous 1.4 Golf with GTI bodykit and pearlescent paint job is up there but at least the GTI is the right manufacturer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,315 ✭✭✭circadian

A horrendous body kit and spoiler on a 2.2 VTEC Prelude. I'll try and dig up some pictures.

I don't even want to look at them, I'm hoping my memory is blanking out the worst of it.

    I had a C type 1979 kadette.

I added a 1.6 Ascona engine, a set of twin carbs a guy in a scrap yard gave me free with the engine.
195’s front, 225’s rear (all remoulded)

It was a beast, but a section of the back chassis rotted and I did a temp repair which included a piece of a teak post, it drive like that for maybe 2 years.

My 1999 purple Honda Civic back box fell off and I left it because the 'grumble' sounded cool. I think back now it was noisy, the rear passengers stoned with petrol fumes and got unbelievable attention from the Police.

I lowered my Cinquecento by cutting the springs.
    Effect compared to stock one:

Go faster stipes (from a roll) -great until they started to peel after in the carwash
4 rectangular spots (behind the grill) - great until my wiring loom burned out.
Painted the writing on the tyres white -great but got fed up repainting them every week,

However, I'm almost certain it all added at least another 2 mph to my Datsun 120 AF2 Coupe back in the 80s bringing the top speed to a terrifying 92 mph.

Sheepskin seat cover on a bucket seat in a mk3 xr3i replica. I’ve still no idea what I was actually trying to achieve with that look, didn’t get much much better as I got older as I then put eyebrows on an e46 coupe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,231 ✭✭✭marklazarcovic

Remember when LEDs first cane out, then LED strips, well ya,

I had strips running the front bumper, under the hood,on the mirrors connected to indicators, under rear spoiler..

Fitted an oil pressure gauge to a 1100 mk2 escort, had to sweat the pipe onto the sender unit which replaced the oil light switch, it blew off after a few weeks , knew nothing until I saw oil around the edges of the bonnet.
I also changed the front struts from drums to discs, which I had bought in a scrap yard in Tralee, this operation transformation took place on a weekend at home in Kildare, only to realise the left strut was bent, had to drive back to work in Kerry with what looked like a drift car setup on the passenger side.
The biggest cockup I ever made was to put a set of Sempreit tyres on a road going 1600 sport that had proper Bilstien track suspension, even a dry road was wet

1600 watts of subwoofers in the back and a spotlight bar on the front of my first 4x4 when I was 18, you could hear me coming for miles.

Put a 7 inch touchscreen in the dash of a passat :)
    had it connected to laptop/ps2.
Also was lowered and kitted...passats are already low, so speedbumps were a disaster and I could not go into multistorey carparks :)
Oh forgot it had a twintip exhaust and i relocated the standard radio into the boot !

I'm actually curious about the radio, how did you change your music, why the boot? :)

Is the radio space where the screen went?

1600 watts of subwoofers in the back and a spotlight bar on the front of my first 4x4 when I was 18, you could hear me coming for miles.

I done this too to a Seicento 899, had 2x800w subs connected to a 3200w amp. The power cable was crudely put out through the gap between the bonnet and door, the rear seats had to be folded flat to accommodate the setup.

Turn to the low pass filter and it shook the car in traffic :P

The same car had 100w golden bulbs, double relayed for blinding all round me

I've had other silly mods on cars over the years, most I would like to say were a pisstake... If you'll believe me :o

Edit: I found a vid from about 7 years ago with some modifications... Where did that time go!

The worst I ever did was put a muffler (burble sound) on a 1998 1.4i Rover 400 :o

A suggestive "rabbit" fuel injection badge on a carburetted 1.1 Escort mk3 when I was still a virgin. A sub enclosure that took most of the boot on a later 1.6 and it also had waah exhaust. Wasn't too bad except that badge which was very camp. Oh yeah and I also drove a purple Ford Ka at some stage although the girls liked that car. At least there were no mods like unicorn teddies etc. in it which I suppose would have completed the look nicely.

Twin 2.5mm Peco Big Bore exhaust and a K&N air filter on my MG Metro. Already had the 6X9 speakers on the parcel shelf when I bought it.

Nice noise from it, but the 4 speed box meant it was horrible at motorway speeds.

Also stuck a back box and tinted windows on the wife's 1.2 Ibiza, but that was a 3rd with the SEAT Aero body kit and 17" TSW multi-spoke alloys so looked well (we thought)
