    Help please :)

3 year old Walker Saorview Box with record function. It will only display ONE red light and wont boot up for us.

It was grand last night. I tried turning everything off and waiting 5 minutes and rebooting, etc

    Any advice, please? Thanks :)

Dump it, it's rubbish.I'm surprised there's still a market for them.

Sound. What would be a good replacement for it?

I'd be thinking hard drive is finished. On the Humax Freesat boxes you could just drop a new hard drive in to it and it would recognise it and format it ready for use, no idea if the same could be done with the Walker box, very little support online from users doing repairs to them.

Thanks man. Could you please recommend a new box for me? Or are they all similar? It's only for bedroom and occasionally watched. Just anything that can get saorview and record really....

Well there is currently a new official box, however it currently doesn't support recording but will soon, however you will need to purchase a hard drive or USB stick to record from, this is it...

If it's only for occasional use, this might suit
    https://www.freetv.ie/digital-tv/

Only thing to be aware of is to use a reliable USB stick or else a good SD/micro SD card with a USB reader. If recording more than 3 hours a day then an external hard drive is best but if it's only an hour per day then a USB stick is fine.

Does the TV have it's own saorview tuner and/or USB port?

Cheers Ten Pin. Its a fairly old TV, definitely no Saorview tuner. Its hooked up to an aerial thats gets a good signal though.

I dont mind spending up to 100 quid, ideally I'd prefer a box with record. I'd buy the same one again but someone earlier on said they're junk and it did go bust a bit quick in fairness.

I have a good setup downstairs with Saorview, freesat, Shield box. Upstairs really I just wanna be able to record some stuff to watch back for 20 mins of an evening.

The record function is the key really

    Have you checked the HDD?
Maybe that is all that requires replacing .......

I wouldnt have a clue how to do that unfortunately. Aside from plugging it in I'm hopeless :)

At this stage I dont mind buying a new one. Just not sure whats the one to buy

I bought a Panasonic (DMR HWT150) recently, they are comparativly expensive but It does 7 day epg, its WiFi, Netflix , YouTube , I can set recording remotely and view recordings remotely too.

Perfect! thanks. Sounds like exactly what I want. Did you buy online?

Wow ...... nearly €280 just for a bedroom!
    https://www.panasonicstore.ie/product/bluray-dvd/smart-networking-hdd-recorder-with-500gb-hdd-dmr-hwt150eb/

I would get a <€60 STB and an external HDD or SSD instead ........ unless of course you need all those 'extras' in the bedroom.

Haha no I hadnt realised it was 280 quid :)

    Wow!
That bargain was almost too good to be true!
I would have expected it to be DOA for that price :D

I dont suppose the Saorview connect Box can record a week in advance like the walker one? Is it basically only the Walker one that can do this without spending crazy money?

At present the Saorview Connect box is limited in functions.
There is a promised update to the firmware which *should* have some more functions enabled.

Check out the Saorview Connect thread for details.

If you mean setting a record timer 8 or more days in advance, then any box that can record should be able to do that. Even a TV with a record function can do it.

Recording on the connect box is promised but not working yet.
