Just a quick question 2011 Toyota Auris 1.4 last week light on p2463 DPF so went to main Toyota they said i should get a new filter fitted at a cost of €750 or they could regen it for €100 so got it regenerated now light on today same code. So really my question is should this be happening so soon or did Toyota just turn the light of to get me back for the €750. Also which should have being done first is not go near Toyota, i know a lad with snapon diagnostics would he be able to tell if it was regenerated before i tear into them

    Thanks All

Why are you going to tear into them? They gave you two options, the cheaper one you went with doesn't seem to have worked.

You can get the filter reconditioned for €200-€300.

Would suspect the initial 100 was a charge for the diagnostics?

If they just turned reset the light and did nothing the light would have came back on a few minutes later, not a few days or a week later. They carried out a forced DPF regeneration which may or may not work when the DPF is blocked. The €100 probably included the initial diagnostic of the problem as well as the forced DPF regeneration.

However if the DPF is totally blocked then no amount of forced DPF regenerations will unblock it, it needs to be removed and physically cleaned/unblocked by a specialist. A main dealer will not remove and physically clean it, standard practice for them would be to recommend replacing the component. Not all main dealers are out to fleece you and there other options out there as Colm suggested.

Just had a look on their site they say they clean out the DPF and EGR now sure ill give them a ring and see, theirs one local if that's not the solution ill get it reconditioned thanks for your help

to be fair a brand new filter for 750 fitted is not bad. Cleaning them can be hit and miss. It will cost 200-300 to get it cleaned and a garage will probably charge another 100 to take out the old one and refit it.

If your doing a lot of town driving in a modern diesel unfortunately these things are going to happen.

I'd suggest a bit more motorway driving.

You could try a DPF diesel additive. This should work so long as it's soot rather than ash blocking the DPF.

I am not sure these really help tbh. The only real way is to get the DPF out and wash it or replace. What sort of mileage is on the car?

If for example you have a lot up on the car then a replacement may be the best option. You can fork out 400 or so for a clean while a replacement is 350 more knowing the DPF is fully clean and last the same amount of miles.

There may be the possibility of an after market DPF as well. You really need to drive it on as well to keep it clean.

I have taken out two dpfs and flushed a high volume of water through them. I have used Wynns off car dpf cleaner as well. It has been successful to date with me racking up 20K miles on one car since the clean. I take it out yearly now for a wash and blow :D

I've had problems with a corolla and auris 1.4 before. A forced regent doesn't seem to work at all.

Your options are really only get it replaced or removed altogether.

So getting it reconditioned or cleaned is a non-runner?

Tried it on one and it didnt work. Ended up fitting a second hand one.

    Dont like removing them.
