    Hi
I'm a painter and decorator, as the hose ban have been introduced just wondering if can I use power washer to clean the house prior to painting? Is commercial use of water allowed in this situation?
    Thanks

I think its a valid question and I would suspect a positive answer.

It is being used in order for a a pre-booked professional service to be completed.

The whole concept of the ban is to stop unnecessary use and to ensure there is water there for businesses to continue to operate and people to go about their normal water use regimes.

It might be permitted but the general public won't see it that way.

Ya. I'd say you are good to go in this situation. The whole neighborhood might have their hanging baskets left around your feet though!

@owenybaloney Why? For example I Can't see the general public boycotting restaurants, bars, gyms etc when they have to use water for their business. Workouts and nights out are non essential after all

The hose ban is for domestic purposes and customers only. I passed a golf course yesterday where the sprinklers were plentiful and in full flow on the driving range.

You need to work, you need to make a living, so powerhose the house and earn your money.

I agree with you. I am a painter myself. It's just that people won't see it that way.

Are you a painter and decorator going to powerhose your own house for painting or a customers house?

Some people... And the worst these people can do is complain to the OP or his customer about it.

Even though commercial car washing is allowed, I don't think many will avail of it.

Thanks for all replies, I like the scenario with all neighbours around my feet with the hanging baskets!😀
Yes, I was thinking about that for a while and how to solve it right.
It looked like I need to wait for rain for the ban to be lifted but if it rains I can't paint then so kind of catch 22.
Would like to have an answer from Irish Water before I proceed...

They might have their own well

True yes they might, but even if they haven't what they're doing isn't currently a problem according to Irish Water. And I agree. Industry like this and others puts food on table for thousands.. It should take preference over my need to fill the paddling pool or water my hanging baskets.

I assumed the reason businesses are exempt from the hose pipe ban was because they pay for their water. In this situation, you don't pay for the water.

    Thank you for your message.

We are mindful of the impact that a Water Conservation Order might have on businesses, and for that reason this ban is so focused on domestic users. However, we urge the public to conserve water as much as possible.

Please feel free to get back in touch if you have further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Louise

    Thank you Louise!
So in simple words I can go ahead and do the power washing then?
If im questioned by anyone I would like to know that I'm definitely not breaking the law and I'm allowed to do that.
    Thank you

    Hi EriktheRed,

You are correct. While we are also appealing to businesses to limit all non-essential water use and to avoid using hosepipes or power washers where possible, we understand that this is your business and this activity is therefore excluded from the Water Conservation Order.

More information on this is available here wtr.ie/2lX2uk3 and feel free to contact us again should you have further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Louise
