Kids on Trains

Yes I know I am setting myself up for a deluge of parental abuse but I wanted to see what the thoughts were of passengers to an incident yesterday.

Commuter train - about 5 mins before off, so getting mad busy and no over seat reservations.

Parents get on with three lovely well behaved chizzlers annoying harridans (I'd say 7-11 ish).

The train is getting crowded, but the parents are actively encouraging two of the three to run the length of the carriage. Some brave crap asked them to stop as his wife had mobility issues - and the mother actually laughed. Apple firmly on that three there.

My point - this was dangerous, antisocial conduct surely ? Is there anyway of letting Irish Rail know ? Like the method LUAS have ?

Child free carriages have to be brought in.

If this was after hours I'd suggest sticking your leg out and tripping the brats up, but it's not so I won't.

Child free carriages? Sounds like we need scumbag free carriages. Nothing really to do with their age at all. Sure what age was the mother?

Surely it's the parents who bear responsibility in this matter? Who knew adults could be assholes...

I'm not brilliant at that but tbh if she was 30 I'd be surprised.

Actually yeah, you've a point - wee girl sitting across the aisle for an hour reading a kids' book. Not a peep till she was offered a drink and said "Yes, thank you".

Definite scumbag vibe from the others. Oh the father/latest squeeze was eating curry from Supermacs. UGH!!!

Oh its the parents fault for not bring them up normally but still - if they can't bring well behaved kids on board they shouldn't be allowed to travel.

    Cue the protests...!!!

Not supermacs! My god. Say no more ;)

You can ride in the child free carriages with the adult junkies so. Not seriously, what we need is some transport police.

No protest but I do see that you you have no kids with a post like that. And with no offence intended, you really no clue about how kids react.

Kids kick off from time to time. Im sure you were the same . Especially under 4s. Little angels one second and complete basket cases the next.

Parents may have a few tricks to keep them from throwing a complete meltdown, but it does not always work.

Now the behavioural problems you are describing could indeed be down to a lazy parent, but not always. Sometimes the alternative to a kids running up and down the carriage, is a tantrum.

This is what the first class carriages are for.

Well I had three children and looked after nieces , nephews and grandchildren and not a single one of them ( under 4 or orherwise ) would have run up and down a train or been allowed disturb other
What absolute rubbish to think a good parent is not capable of another way except to allow a child run on public transport

It's a train not a pub or a club it's not a child free zone get over it. What if a someone with children can only get seats in a child free carriage should they have to stand with their children in a non child free carriage?

Children banned at peak hours unless parents can control there little darlings!

Yes they should have to stand, most are not paying (children free) and not entailed to have seats for there children.

So they should have to stand even if there's seats available

Yes, people stand in standard even if there is first class seats available.

I witnessed an incident only last week over seats and children and had no choice but to become involved and it escalated but in the end a gabby couple and enough children to fill a min bus were put firmly in there place by myself and other passengers.

But most trains don't have a first class compartment or a quiet compartment it's only on some Intercity trains where standing is less prevelant than on DART or Commuter trains. Do you think commuter trains should have a first class section or a quiet carriage?

I think buggys should be banned at peak times. Was two buggys (one in wheelchair space and the other in the slightly free area in front of the elderly priority seats) on my bus home yesterday evening. Makes what is already usually a cramped, standing room only affair even more uncomfortable.

It was more stating the point about standing if no seats in a designated area.

And how do you suggest that would be enforced when most drivers will likely not enforce it. They should be allowed as long as they are folded up.

Why didn't ask the person to fold it up?

I have a kid and agree with him. It’s pretty easy to tell the difference between a parent dealing with a child with behavioural problems and a parent who just doesn’t give a f*ck.

To date, I've not had much in the line of bad experiences on trains where children / parents are concerned.

One thing that comes to mind concerns where there is a child in the seat directly in front of me, and the parent allows the child to stand up on their seat, leaning over the back and staring me in the eyes for prolonged periods. Maybe they have a fascination with my face, but that's no consolation while it's happening.

    God that's annoying!!

The other day i had a parent wanting to play on their phone said to the kid - "help the lady with her puzzle" and the f***ing kid starting drawing on my paper!!!!

You don't have to have kids to know that is NOT cool!!!!

    NOT cool I agree, Planespeeking.

Getting back to my previous post re the kid standing up on the seat in front of me in the train, staring at me. I think all she wanted was for me to notice her. The only thing is that if I had said "You're lovely!" or "What's your name?", I would have encouraged more of the undesirable behaviour. A lose/ose situation!

Or you get what happened to a friend's dad - wee girl pirouetting in her seat, he says "what a bonny wee girl you are" and the mother calls him all kinds!!!

You're so right, Hilly Bill. That would have needed courage on my part - which I seemingly don't have. LOL! :D

On 2nd thoughts, had I done that, Young Madam would probably have held the whole train to ransom by producing a massive tantrum - and Mom would have called in Police to arrest me for abusing her child. LOLOL!

    "KIDS! LISTEN CAREFULLY:
-It does matter what you look like, you'll get more love more sex and more friends if you're goodlooking, you wont be
-It does matter whats inside, and whats inside you is an antisocial personality pushed by a hands off parent, so you're screwed there too
    -Santas not real
    -There is no God
-Life is short and you could die any moment
-9/10 people who fall in love will fall out of it, usually after they've married the person
-Despite telling yourslf you'll get into shape you wont.  Only about `1% of the population have a mens health body, you'll tell yourself you'll go to the gym, might even buy a membership you never use, but you'll let yourself go and stop caring after 30
    -

You all have a nice day now!
