Declare import off the road

Can anyone tell me what's the procedure for importing a car, paying the VRT, and immediately declaring it off the road once imported? Can I do this?
Also, I can't get a logbook for the vehicle until I declare it back on the road and tax it?

You will have to tax it for 3 months to get the log book.
I don't think there's an option to declare off road straight away... but I could be wrong

The day following registration you can declare it off the road for 3/6/12 months using the online system - PIN is the last 6 digits of the chassis number. Takes overnight to update on the system rather than being immediate (may take 24 hours rather than over night, not 100% sure).

Same procedure as for brand new, unregistered Irish cars - declared loads of them off the road using this procedure where they are registered last day of the month for targets. Generally taxed in the next few days after declaration so the VLC's are issued in that case.
