Will it fail nct? How much could it cost for repairs?

Hi friends. Today i had a littke encounter with a pillar. I'm devastated. It's the first time in 22 years that i crash my car. It's only a 2007 grande punto so not worth spending too much money on it, but i need to sort it out

    1. Would my car fail nct with no fuel door (but fuel cap still on and not damaged? And a dent before and after the fuel door?
    2. How much do you think it could cost?

Hubby exaggerates always and scared me by saying it could cost 3 or 4 grand to repair and that it's illegal to drive with no fuel door on (pretty sure he's wrong about this). He also told me that i will fail the nct if i don't sort it out but i can't find anything on the nct manual about missing fuel doors.

Any idea and/or suggestions of a garage in newbridge/kildare where my car could be magically fixed on a cheap?

    Thanks in advance xxx

Put it through the test and see. Better spend 50 quid finding out than giving someone big money when it might pass. Definitely won't cost 3 or 4 grand anyway the car isn't even worth that . Can't see the pics or maybe you didn't post them but a fuel door will cost you 50 - 100 quid max.

Thanks for the message. Don't know what happened last night but it gave me error and didn't upload the picture. Maybe it's too big? The car is due the nct in september. I'll try fuxing things the cheapest possible way. I knew hubby was exaggerating things as usual...

I'm trying to upload a smaller picture. Hope it shows!

Hitting a pillar is not crashing your car :D

About the fuel door, if you look in the NCT tester's manual
    https://www.ncts.ie/media/1004/nct-manual-july-2014.pdf
11 No fuel cap or fuel cap seal damaged or missing.
I think this refers to the actual cap and not the door.
No promises but you're probably ok, and since there is so much time left you can source parts and fix in time.

    Where are you located?
We can suggest local mechanics you can get quotes from.

Once there are no sharp edges, rust or structural issues (which there wouldn't be if you just brushed off a pillar) damaged bodywork will pass an NCT and as above once the actual cap is on the tank you don't need the door to be present.

A picture of the damage would help clarify though.

As mentioned above, i don't see it being that big a deal, long as the cap is on and functional... as to the repair, if the bodywork around the door isn't too much bent in, you might be able to source a door from a scrappy for cheap, might even get lucky and find one with the same color, fitting shouldn't be too hard either... but yeah pictures would help, maybe you can use a pix sharing platform and post the link? Or wetransfer or something?

It should also be noted that you can get away with sharp edges if you use duct tape to cover them but be thorough.
If removing for repair be careful and heat it with a hair-drier to melt the glue first
