    Hi ,

I thought I would ask here before I submitted a claim for Jobseekers .

Is it true that because my partner is in full time work that I would get little or nothing by way of a Jobseekers allowance once means tested ?

I have heard stories of people getting decisions of €5 a week and €25 euro a week if they are co-habiting with a partner who is working.

We are renting our own place and we aren't married.

    Thanks for any info

If you meet all the conditions for Benefit then you will get a fixed amount based on your weekly earnings in 2016.
If you don’t meet the conditions then you’ll be means tested for Allowance against your partners wages and yes, you might get very little or nothing at all.

In your title you mention Jobseekers Benefit while in your text you mention Jobseekers Allowance and means testing. The difference is critical. The Social Welfare code does not in general support co-habitation and in effect discourages and penalises it.

What does your partner earn, and do you have kids?

bit crap though, if you are married you get taxed as a couple but if you are single but cohabiting you get no tax break and the partners income is still taken into account:confused:
