Turbo compressor exhaust leak?

    Hi all,

I am not used with these engines. I have fitted a reconditioned turbo by a garage. I noticed that there is smoke coming from the compressor side, if I am right, of the turbine. I am wonder what could be the cause.
I removed and cleaned the EGR valve, but still the exhaust is coming out and I can feel the smell inside the car, sometimes when push harder.
I have the DPF removed and remap, this is the way I got the car.
Volvo v50 1.6d, the car runs ok.
Any help is more than welcomed.
    Thank you.

It's pretty common for them to leak between the downpipe and the turbo if the gasket and clamp were re-used following the turbo replacement. We always fit a new clamp and gasket for that reason.

    Thank you for your reply.
You are positive that the leak is coming from the area you saying, and not from compressor side? An turbo builder said that there is no exhaust flow and the leak is coming from the turbo exhaust side. Therefore I removed and cleaned the EGR valve. It is difficult to change the gasket and the clamp?
I am pretty sure that the mechanic did not change the gasket or clamp. They even used the old feed pipe, they said that they will fit new one...what can I say..

Well I'm not positive because i haven't seen the car but it certainly looks like it based on what I've seen in the past. What usually happens is the soot leaks out at the join between turbo and downpipe and then the shape of the heatshield directs it up and over the top of the turbo so it looks like it is leaking from the turbo itself.

Lack of exhaust flow is highly unlikely to be an issue if the car has had a DPF delete.
