I was wondering at what Age Height and Weight can a child be allowed to sit in front passenger seat (with or without CRS eg Booster seats or Cushions)?

I have seen children 6 7 sitting in front seats, on cushions, wearing proper seat belts. Is it illegal? What does the Law/Rule say about it.

Depends on the seat really. Some will have conditions in their manual about how they are to be used in front seat.

But at the end of the day, I don't really trust my son would be able to keep sitting right in his seat if it was at the front.

It says in the RSA document that taxi drivers "are exempt from providing child car seats". Does that mean that if you have to bring a small child in a taxi, you have to provide the child seat yourself?
Or does child safety in a taxi not matter?

    Bring your own seat.

I started this thread after reading the booklet. Since I am new to Ireland, I am a little confused.

It says in the booklet on page number 5 “there is no law against children sitting in the front seat, As long as they are using the right children restraint for their height and weight”

In UK are child under certain age (I’m not sure about the age limit) Is not allowed to sit in the front seat no matter what weight or height. I have not found anything like that in this booklet

Backwards facing seats (seats for little little babies) are not allowed in the front if the car has airbags.

A lot of cars have an airbag deactivation switch for rear facing child seats.

This is what citizens info says
Children over 3 years of age may occupy a forward facing front seat of a vehicle only if they are using a safety belt or an appropriate child restraint. Otherwise, they must travel in a rear seat. Children under 150 centimetres in height and weighing less than 36 kilograms (generally children up to 11/12 years old) must use the correct child seat or booster cushion.

A booster seat yes, a cushion in my opinion wouldn’t be appropriate seating.
