If the Diesel engine isn’t running then yes they should give it a good shot.

If it’s running and just not producing power then call an industrial sparks.

Runs but cuts out each time after 10 secs or so. Checked oil, air filter and diesel and all seem OK.

    Dirt in the tank.
    Air getting into fuel line.

Depending on how fancy it is there could be an electrical fault signaling the plant to stop.

Injectors are a constant problem with small diesel engines. There's a lad on Waterside in Waterford city who is handy with that stuff, fuel systems on diesel engines. Pm me and I'll try to dig out contact details for him. Not much fixing to the injectors on those engines. Usually straight replacement. From memory if you're talking about a 6kva generator a replacement injector for the engine on that size generator is around €180.

Diesel mechanic couldn't find anything at this end so now trying another place to look at the electrics.
Any ideas what it could be ? Trip switch or something more serious ?

Does the engine die altogether or is it a breaker that's tripping.

It might be tripping out on under over over voltage.

Does it run as normal with nothing connected? The issue may be with the pump.

What's the generator rating and what's the load it is carrying?

Nope, cuts out whether connected or not. Pump should be fine as the diesel mechanic had a look and nothing at his end.
