Mazda 3 - 2.2L diesel

I posted previously regarding buying a new diesel car, I don't know much about cars but i had thought i30 was a good option for me. I drive about 25k miles a year
I drove a Mazda 2.2l today and really liked it.... I'm doing some research on the internet but see there are lots of people with issues with the engines?
What would people advise. There is a 3 year warrenty

Mazda and Diesel don't mix well.

Slightly OT as it's not technically engine related.
I don't know much about cars but know a lad who has a Mazda 6, 2.2.
The ECU went, just after warranty was up. He brought it to the Mazda garage where he bought it, when it was looked at it was all corroded like it was sitting in salt water. Everything else in the car was corrosion free.
It's not an off the shelf part, it had to be built by the Mazda factory specifically for his car. It took 6 weeks and cost a nice few €€. His only saving grace was Mazda supplied a free rental car after 2 weeks.
Saying that, he loves the car.

I bought one of these brand new in 2014, kept it less than 2 years. Had constant issues with diesel dilution in the oil which bought up a check engine light every 4-5k miles. I had to get the oil changed when this happened. Dealer was good but mazda customer service was very poor, one suggested fix was to put less oil in than recommended which compounded the dilution. Eventually they acknowledged there was an issue and they were working on a software fix. I lost confidence in the car and mazda and got rid of it before the fix was ready, won't touch a mazda again.

We've 2 in the family and neither gives any bother. They seem to give issues if they are used for multiple short journies which no diesel is built to do.

Anyway I've only good things to say about them. They do need to be serviced properly however.

Funnily enough my driving pattern involved mostly motorway driving, I've had 7-8 different diesels for the same commute before and after the mazda without any issues with any of them. I know I'm alone here. Mazda did admit there were issues they looking to resolved, perhaps they have resolved them since

You're not alone. I think we got the two well built ones!

No mazda haven't built a good diesel.engine in nearly 20 years.
