A question I hope someone can help me with...

If a hand brake was adjusted so that it was on with just a single click, could that cause the shoes to wear prematurely needing a cleaning or warp the drums?

It could ye. 3 is normally spot on. If you jack up the back of the car you should be able to tell if its restricting the wheels from turning. Or just check if the drums and wheels are roasting hot after a spin.

Thank you, a main stealer adjusted the hand brake a while back when it was in for another job (I thought it was a bit weak with the horse box on) and he set it to one click. A few months later I had to get the drums cleaned (not covered by warranty of course...) and after that it was 4 clicks . Now after the service he says the drums are warped and they are not warranty items!

Ya sounds like they where over tightend. Like how can anyone think it’s ok to let a car out like this. Of course if there that tight there going to be slightly on hence them wearing so quick and heating excessively.

Sounds like a work shop u should be staying away from. What is with piss poor mechanics now or days. Do they not take pride in there work. When I’m finished any job in the garage I check everything then double check again before the car is handed back to the customer

It was a main stealer so not alone did I get done, but I paid well for it!!!

This will be my last visit to them, a lesson learned.

This type of jobs in a main dealer will be almost always carried out by a first year apprentice. While ur paying top dollor for a job the dealer is letting the apprentice work on the car and although he thinks he’s doing you a great job by tightening ur park break he doesn’t have the experience to know what he’s actually doing is wrong and causing further problems.

This is why so many people hate going to main dealers. And I’m not knocking apprentices because they all have to learn in fact a 3rd year apprentice works with me most days and he actually learning the jobs but he’s also gaining the experience off me so I’m showing him the consequences of if something went wrong.
