Learner's licence renewal

My learners license expired in 2015, I had about 6 of the 12 lessons done. Moving away for college/cost of insurance meant that I had no time/money to drive.

I am now in the position where I want to learn again. Since my learners license has been expired almost 3 years, can I renew it easily or will I need to take the theory test again?

Also, will the lessons I have already completed count towards my 12, or do I need to start from 0 again?

    Cheers.

You only have to take the theory test again if it's expired over 5 years.
You will need proof that you've applied for a driving test.

I'm not sure about the EDT lessons, but you might want to do all 12 if it's 3 years since you've driven. :)

Thank you. What kind of proof would that be?

Yeah I probably will do more lessons than I need to, but I understand that you can't apply for a test until you have all 12 mandatory lessons done? And I also understand that the waiting list is generally about 5-6 months.

    hi pwisp,

I was in the same situation recently having returned home from living abroad.

For the proof of application, I applied for my test online and brought the email confirmation to the NDLS centre to apply to renew my license. this will be enough for a 1 year renewal.

i originally had my provisional since 2005 so it was before the EDT lessons came in.

I applied start of April for my test and got a date for end of July

    hope this helps.

Edit: I would suggest going to an NDLS centre for a walk-in appointment rather than booking online as there can be a bit of a backlog for scheduled appointments, best to try get there 20 minutes or so before opening and get a good spot in the queue, should be out within the hour then. also have the renewal form completed before you go in.
