Fuel range has increased by 200Km

    I git petrol last week topped up my normal range would be 570km but instead it was showing 770km and when i filled up again same range

    Any ideas what it might be is the fuel gone stronger ?

    the only thing i got done with car was change the battery would that have caused it ?

    Toyota Corolla Petrol 1.3

    Likely trip computer was calculating on your most recent drive which wasnhigh mpg, perhaps a motorway run before you refilled?

    This value fluctuates and should recalibrate as soon as you are driving some distance again

    The trip computer would be calculating the range based on previous fuel consumption data, which has been lost after disconnecting the battery. So I would say this will be inaccurate for a while. Try resetting your trip counter after filling it and see how far you really go.

    Hot weather helps the engine efficiency and reduces air drag and schools out so less traffic jams. I got my bike showing 3.9 l/100 after a spin last week when it normally averages 5.0-5.1.

    Cold air is better than hot air for efficiency so it’s not that. Drag thing adds up but wouldn’t be that big a factor.

    The cold air is definitely better for power as it's denser and reduces that temperature in the combustion allowing for greater ignition advance for example. But cold air also takes more effort to compress and needs more energy to heat it up so more fuel is used. In cold weather the engine coolant and oil also take longer time to reach the correct operating temperature increasing the fuel consumpion. Not sure about the percentage the lesser drag has but it all adds up. Finally, there is feck all traffic jams this week and I bet even that guy that was getting 28 MPG on his 1.0 Focus is doing better this week.

    Or has your fuel efficiency reduced in the past week?

    Is it so now? I personally got the best ever fuel economy on my motorized vehicle due to hot weather and lack of sitting in a traffic jam. And the same physical and environmental effects are at play regardless of number of wheels.

    Why in your opinon the OP this week sees the best ever fuel economy on his vehicle?
